first off lets get this in the open: I know im an idiot. My problem is that i ran my car waaay over due for oil change and my car developed a "ticking" sound. What can this be? The car starts and idle's fine but at about 3k it starts to "tick". About how much could i be looking at here?

Ehhh, how much "overdue" are you talking about? How many miles since last oil change? Have you checked the oil level recently (do so immediately!).
Are you low a quart of oil (or is it not even showing up on the dipstick)?

It's best to check it after several hours of non-operation, such as in the morning so that all the oil drains back down. Keeping a close eye on the oil level is a must...

sorry, i should have mentioned this was some time ago, about a year now. Ive been gone on deployment and boot camp. now im trying to figure out what im gonna do with it. Baby on the way and really need to get rid of it but pretty sure it wont bring much "as is" . When this all started I checked right away and there was no oil in the car. (not sure what was wrong with me and not paying attention to the life blood of my car) I tried adding some with hope that the tick would go away but no luck. Like i said it starts and runs fine but as the rpms climb it starts ticking and gets faster and worse the higher the RPM's. I parked it and have not even started it in about a year. I tell you one thing, this is a lesson learned.
