engine ticking and making

Alright so heres the deal ive been having some on going problems w/ my car like not running right seem slike its not runnin on cylinders but like i can have my car on for 20 min or 20 seconds but as soon as i shut it off i hear ticking and just sounds like bubling/ gargling in the motor i dunno if its coming from the center of the motor or under the valve covers.. but any suggestions on what it might be

also when its running it sounds liek a noise like shhh shhh like air or something it sounds like air but i dunno it sounds like its coming from the back of the motor to the middle of the motor i cant place it either but im tryin to kill 2birds w/ one stone and get this car to not be acting soo weird

Sounds like either an exhaust leak around the headers maybe (stock header gaskets are notorious for warping and causing leaks). Or it could be some loose rockers. I had a ticking from both driver and passenger sides near the back of the motor, and when I tore the valve covers off doing my h/c/i swap, I had 5 loose rockers, 3 on the drivers side, and 2 on the passenger side. The gurgling is probably just the coolant settling in the block. What do you mean by it's not running right?

when i say not running right it idles as if it has a cam and it sounds like a lawnmower when u give it gas sounds like its not running and feelslike its not on all cylinders.. the motors got alot of vibration sometimes it will run back to normal ifu rev it and then all cylinders will kick to normal if that makes sense.. but yeah any suggestions?? :damnit:

Have you pulled the codes? A bad MAF can cause erratic problems with idle and revving and overall drivebility. Trust me, I've on my 4th one. Pull the codes and see what's up, you could have a bad sensor somewhere.

The computer can throw codes that won't trip the CEL. Just cause the light isn't on doesn't mean you don't have codes stored. I asked the exact same question last summer when I was having problems.

Guys at Autozone can be jerks when it comes to pulling codes on an OBD1 car. If they don't wanna do it for you, just buy one at www.midwayautosupply.com. I'll get a link for you and post it in a few.

The cam sound is probably a vacuum leak somewhere, check your PCV valve to make sure it's in, and if you haven't changed the screen, grommet, and valve in a long time change them, it's only bout $20 total from Ford. The vibration almost sounds like a harmonic balancer, mine acted as you said when mine went out, it would vibrate like crazy at certain speeds, but if I accelerated it would decrease and then stop. I changed the balancer and all was well after that. Also, the ticking could be an exhaust leak like Chris said, get out your wrench and check all the header bolts.

the pcv valve and gromet and screen? those all come w/ it when u buy a pcv valve? or all seperate things? hmm.. i can see a bit of rubber coming out where the harmonic balancer is.. but its like a little bit not a lot of rubber.. i dunno but that may be the prob.. i hope it is
