Ok...so I wont go into the how of what happened. I had some PtV contact, which
resulted in the destruction of my engine.
That being said...Im looking for advice on my next move. Obviously Im buying a new
engine. I have about $5k in cash plus $2k in credit which I can use as a buffer. What
I really want to do is put a 4v in. But Im open to guying a built 2v as well.
I've been surfing ebay the last few days...there are a couple possibilites as far as
that goes. I found some N/A cobra motors I've also been browsing for crate motors
which is a mach1 engine.
What I want to know is what all I need to do a complete swap.
I read this thread where the swap was discussed.
For the most part time is not an issue (thanks to time off because of
hypertension) I've also got enough wrench time not to worry about being able to
do the work myself.
So basically I guess what I want to know is, given the same budget, what would you
guys do?
Do I go with a drop-in 4v or 2v?
Do I build one

personally i would buy and engine from VT or someone like that. you cant beat a built engine with a warranty. you should have plenty of cash for that and possibly about half the cash for a s/c too.

If you plan on staying N/A....get the mach 1 engine. Just make sure its a 5 spd engine if you can get it.
www.karkraft.com has some auto mach 1 engines for cheap if your wanting to go 4V inexpencively...only problem is that I wouldnt rev them to past 6500RPM. Otherwise go for a 01 cobra engine over an auto mach.

If your wanting to go blown, sell you stg 2 cams to someone for $400 and use that towards some VT blower cams, then buy some new stock heads for about $300. VT should be able to hook you up with the springs and everything for probably around $300 more. Then buy a 302 stroker shortblock from www.vtengines.com for about $3500. That will get your car going, then go to www.modularpowerhouse.com and figure out what form of FI you want and save a bit and buy one of those kits.

Will cost alot more this way...but you could go low-mid 500s to the tires with that setup on pump gas. (any of the mongoose kist should do it) Just some options...

Thanks for the input guys. I think Im leaning to doing a 4v. I'd really like to make a bitchin N/A so I think the 4v would suite me better.
Now I just have to figure where/which engine to get. Should I go with a N/A cobra engine or a mach 1? Im not clear on the differences.
Also would anyone whos done the swap mention any hang-ups they ran in to?

yeah i'd love to see it to. trade off the inherent torqiness and dependable V8 performance for an overhyped *** engine. sounds like a PLAN
