I had a buddy call me tonight and say that a third party friend wanted a complete 289 in a bad way. Well, I just happen to have an original, complete '66 289 that I have no intention of using when I restore the car. This brings me to my question, oh great gurus of stangnet: What is my complete 289 worth? Thanks guys

It is a c-code with a Edelbrock performer 289 4v manifold on it. Condition? I don't know. The car was in pieces when I bought it, and there is no carb. I have not even set a battery in it and tried to turn it over. I just drug it home and put in storage.

it's worth whatever he's willing to give you for it. Let him make an offer. Then you decide if that's what you're willing to take for it.

I knew as soon as hit post that somebody was going to be smart about that.
A complete engine as in all brackets, accessories, valve covers.....etc,etc....he didn't want just a block and heads.

That doesn't sound orignial.

I have been looking over ebay for a 289 for a few months. A plain Jane 289 a or c code isn't worth much. (Shipping often costs more.) Just no demand to price them high.

ebay pricing I have seen:
If it is old running and origninal, 200-500ish. (or no sale)

If it is rebuilt and modified, you are lucky if anyone bids.

If it is rebuilt and modified and you put way too much money in to it+documented and you want something back $500+ (+ being pretty high depending on what is on it to make it worh more).

If this is the original/matching block to your car and you haven't made major non-bolt on mods, it is worth more going with your car when you sell it, or when your estate sells after you die because you will never sell your mustang.

EXACTLY!! I have had the mustang bug for 25 yrs now. It took me 22 yrs before I bought this one. It is probably going to be a few more years before I get to start on the car. My 16 yr old daughter thinks I am building it for her.
Girls just don't understand the concept of 400+ ponies(I am guessing 425). I don't think it will set in until I get the thing to run and she actually hears the exhaust note. I can just see her face now....WOW Dad, That Sounds Mean!!

It's even more impressive when you fire it off in the shop, with open headers, & a big lopey cam and then stuff starts falling off the shelves from the exhaust pulses......... I think the first time that happened with my teenaged son (at the time, he's older now) and his friends present that I really made a hit with em all.............. They have never forgoten that moment. :SNSign: And it saved em all from being sucked into the "ricer" scene. By the way, what DID happen to all that ?????????
