No problem dude! I'd never installed a crank before so it was a great learning experience and of course always fun to hang with you at the farm/compound.

Fired the car up this morning, longest 1.5seconds ever waiting for the oil pressure to come up... 60psi cold idle shot it down went to work.

lets see.... I still need to....
-Tighten the motor mounts
-Adjust the Blower pulley [it had to come off to remove the timing cover]
-Adjust the AC compressor Clutch the gap is huge and it works sometimes
-heater core hoses
-Radiator and hoses.
-Install the hood
-Strut tower brace [this can wait]

I drove the car to work today, who needs a shake down run? Got the belt on it and topped the fluids off, adjusted the clutch and off i went on my marry way.

The first few miles i was mister take it easy, driving miss daisy, windows up AC on full blast. I got on her a little bit merging onto the interstate and settled into traffic.

A few miles pass and the road opens up on a long stretch where the cops cant hide, I am cruising in the middle lane at about 70MPH and a new GT matches my speed in the left lane..... I went ahead and down shifted into 4th, he took the hit and i wailed on the throttle. I was 1 car ahead when i lifted, we both slowed down and cruised again content. I was happy and grinning ear to ear, a newer SS camaro driving like an ******* blows by us then slows down. [ I assume he saw us playing and wanted some ] Here we go again 4th gear waiting for it, The camaro hits and i follow suit... Not my smartest decision ever but meh.
I lift somewhere north of 100mph, ahead of the GT and within a fender of the camaro... Not sure the guy in the GT knew what gear to be in I feel as though he should have been able to hang.

So much for breaking it in easy.

well for now the car seems to be running very well, I plan to DD it for a while and see what rears its head.

I do have an issue with the trans, once hot it does not want to go into gear from a stop... T5 from what i have read this is an issue when the syncros start to go bad

Typically a synchro will cause a grind... not a full lock out feeling. If it feels like you're pressing the shifter against a brick wall then it could be a different issue. It may be due for a rebuild though.

If you need to pull the trans, you can do it without removing the bell housing.

I'd try a fluid change first. Maybe even a bit of Lucas. The synchros slow the gear down so it will engage. A bad synchro will usually cause the slider ring to contact the dog teeth... usually on the gear side. Worn detent springs and keepers can cause a stuck in or out of gear issue.

As the fluid thins out it can cause these little rectangles to get stuck.

1. Are the detent springs
2. Are the keepers or keys

In a high friction situation they can lock you out of gear. Synchros typically cause a grind associated with not being able to get in gear.

yeah.... by the time i pulled into my parking lot the car didnt want to go into any gear from a stop..... thats not good

Sounds like a clutch cable that gets longer with heat. Add a couple of turns out on the firewall adjuster and see if that makes things better. Lucas just makes the oil thicker on a transmission that was designed to run ATF because of the tight clearances of the bearings. That thicker oil isn't a good plan at all...

I did try to put a turn or 2 on the adjuster when i got to work, the cable is tight. tighter than i think it should be.

My Ranger is doing the same thing. This morning I had to drift into a parking spot because I couldn't get it in gear. No grinding just blocked out. This isn't a t5. The fluid in it is advance auto brand mercon dexron. I changed the clutch a year or two ago. Other than this one issue the trans works great. I've decided not to put any more time or money in this truck. When the trans goes the truck is scrap. Gives me an excuse to buy a new truck.
