Enough to run down...

They aren't invincible....but they do run good. First and foremost I'm only gonna speak of 6spd cars, since the un-stalled auto's aren't all that great from what I have seen. I don't think it'd be THAT hard to beat one with a cheap setup, but theres no such thing as a 'budget' efi build imo. Convert to carb, work a set of heads, with exhaust and gears and you should be pretty close in a 5spd FOX. An sn95 will need more work.

I've seen the ls1's run all over the board too. I've beaten them through the beginning of 3rd (its already stupid, but im not gonna kill anyone on the street) in my LT1 6spd car, which uncorked they seem to go high 13s @ 102-3 on street-tires. An uncorked LS1 with a TUNE! (this is soooooooo crucial) will go LOW 12s as they will dyno @ 360rwhp with a lid/headers etc./tune combo.

It really depends on what #'s your h/c/i gets you and what mods you have before you go KBing a car. It's sad but it's just how it is. There is no replacement for displacement.

Go work on the LS1 though, its much more of a PITA. I fret working on my LT1 car like no other.

My only latest gripe with LS1 cars is piston slap. Read up on it and see how sicking it is to see how many are affected when GM got away from selective production. My brothers Z has it, there's cars on the board with 17,000 that have it. They still run like raped apes...but I find the noise rather un-nerving.

I have actually beat and run with stock and light bolt on LS1s (on a closed course obviousely). Dead heats more or less, one time I pulled a car or car and a half, from both a roll and a dig. Thats not gutted and with a mere 258/295 to the tires :D.

I aint sayin that, or anything like it. A stock 5.0 with a bell can't take a ls1.Sorry

I was just kidden, but for some reason most people think a foxbody with some bolt ons will not be able to beat a stock ls1 camaro. I ran a 13.4@100mph with a 1.88 60ft which is about what a good running ls1 camaro will run stock, but they will trap faster than I did (i think....pretty sure) but if I were to have had some control arms and a 60ft of say 1.7 I think I would be trapping at about 13flat maybe a 12.99999 But I will say if you run into a modified one you better have the bottle or some kinda of power adder or hci.

Yep, a little before the 1/8 mile, they are going to come on quite strong on you.

Add another 100 feet and they have done passed you and are pulling hard, assuming you trap 100 mph.

They do not E.T. as well, because they typically do not address the rearend (needs it) or traction, like some of these low E.T.'ers in the 5.0L class.

Do some work to the ls1 to get it to a 1.8 60 ft. and then see what happens:)

I have never ever seen a bolt-on fox beat an ls1 on the highway, indicated by trap speed.

they are insane top end monsters. Mine would jump from 60-120 on the hwy in scary fast time. I have yet to ride in another car that had such insane top end. I know a built ford could do it, I have just never ridden in one that has. Besides as much as I loved my Z28, f-bodies never could sound as nice as a 5.0

Yeah but thats ALL about traction. A 13.4 @ 100 is a good bit slower than a 13.2 @ 107 (what an LS1 with a good driver at an average track could run). Trust me, I was going 13.0 @ 103 (bolt ons) and now run 13.0s @ 106-107 on street tires and the difference is night and day!

i beat a ws6 at norwalk's track last year. the dude had 20's on the car, double stack wing and didn't know how to drive. I spun bad in first and by the time i was half way through second i was two cars ahead of him. i ran a 14.3 and his was somewhere around a mid 15. i thought those double wings made the 4th gens real bad hombre's, lol.

a good HCI fox with gears and suspension should have no problem dispensing with an LS1...it takes about 280-300rwhp to beat one. My car will SLOWLY walk a 6 spd stock LS1.
