have you had this problem with that i am about to explain. this is using stock manifolds to an aftermarket x-pipe (upr). the pipe is tightened all the way it can be onto the exhaust manifolds but there are some factory metal spacers (that are on the stud) there and i cant tighten em down any further. so im about ready to say f**k it and buy some aftermarket shorty headers so i dont have to deal with studs.

NAPA Exhaust stud kits. PN#......


I can't remenber what the parts number was. Do serach on NAPA studs, and you should be able to find it no prob

Edit - on the second thought, i did that for you. Here is the number

your telling me to replace the stud?

cause i guess its sealing up good on the passenger side.

yes. I'm telling you to replace studs. When you go buy one you'll see, but "sholder" on OEM studs is HUGE compear to NAPA one. Its like 5 bucks. I say go for it. Plus, if you tighten the piss out of it, and its still not sealing, then all you have got left is replace the studs right?

There was case(my case) that my old BBK O/R X pipe driver side ball frange wasn't perfect round(damn UPS and their rough shipping), but because stupid OEM studs, it will not pull enough to straight it out. Because it'll hit frange befor pull enough to seal. Changed the studs, pulled enought(tremandus amount of torque you can imagine), and stright it self out, and stop the leak

OH MY GOD!!!
This is like the most important step in replacing the factory H pipe.
They are a snap to replace too.
Once the Factory H is out, just spray some WD-40 or penetrating oil up there. After a few minutes of soaking, put both nuts on one stud. Tighten them together, you know, tighten the upper nut onto the lower one. Once they are tight, put a wrench on the upper nut and proceed to loosen the stud from the manifold. Install the new stud which will be stiff but is not stripping and continue with the rest of the install.

i havent dealed with taking a stud out before

so your saying to screw a nut all the way and then put another one behind it and tighten it then loosen the first nut the normal way (left loosey..)?

i am gonna do this tomorrow since i got the day off

Yes, but you don't have to go all the way up to the shank with the first nut, just enough to get the second nut on will do.

I think this leak probrem is more profound with BBK O/R X. But not limited to that either. I have heard that sometime in 01, Ford changed diameter of manihold joint on Mustang. I could be wrong tho. My Prochamber came with this reducer cup for that reason. I used it, and bye bye leak.
And some other thing I noticed with mid pipe change is that passenger side gasket sometimes move when your installing the pipe, and hense the leak.

I believe the studs are reverse-threaded. So you should have to turn RIGHT to loosen. I may be wrong.
