Thanks for the input. Someone else pointed me toward a 1/4 mile time estimator on Prestage.com. Let me show what it predicted, and let me know if this makes sense.

Weight of 1980 Mustang: 2606lbs (Encyclopedia of American Cars, 2001)
Additional weight of 351: 50lbs (http://www.team.net/sol/tech/engine.html)
Additional weight of scattershield:48lbs
Addional weight of other mods: 80lbs
Weight of driver: 190lbs
Total race weight: 2974lbs

RWHP = 327 (385hp X 85%)

Prestage predicts a time of 12.15 @ 112mph.

Now, I did a sense check of two vehicles I am very familiar with. One weighted 4700 lbs and had 260rwhp, and ran 15.35 @ 89 mph consistently with myself behind the wheel. Prestage predicted 15.27 @ 89mph. My buddy has a 2003 Corvette automatic that runs a consistent 13.4 @ 105 mph, and Prestage predicted (using a 3450 race weight) a time of 13.2 @ 103 mph.

However, I'm sceptical this Mustang will REALLY be that fast. Anyone have dyno data on the 351/385hp engine?

I'm wondering how quick the following car might be in the quarter-mile. It is a 1980 Mustang hatchback, running the Ford Motorsport 351ci engine (385hp/377 ft-lbs torque, current part number M-6007-A351R). It runs a Holley 750 dual-feed carb, has full-length headers, true dual exhaust, coupled to a Motorsport T-5 trans, and a 9" posi rear with 3.50:1 gears. Chassis-wise the car is stock, except for subframe connectors and different front springs to cope with the additional weight of the 351. How quick do you think this car will be with drag radials and a decent driver behind the wheel?

I should have included the head specs. Ford iron castings, ported, polished and pocketed by Andy Konya. 1.94" intake /1.60" exhaust valves. 9.5:1 compression. Technically, the engine is not the SVO crate engine, but has the same cam and compression as the SVO engine. I guess a LOT of headwork was done to the factory castings, so I'm estimating it to be in the same ballpark to the SVO 351 power-wise. It revs very quickly, and runs strong (from the one drive I took it on).

I do not own this car, which is why I have not been able to find out firsthand what it would run. I know the guy who is selling it and I am thinking about adding it to my "stable", but only if it is faster than my daily-driver Corvette...

Also, the early Body style has the sleeper factor!
