ET Streets won't pass PA inspection will they?

Is there a rule to tread depth, or is it like in most other places where the wearbars are the indicators?
ET Streets have wear bars, and with 150+/- runs and several hundred street miles mine are no where close to the bars.

I think as long as you arent to the wear bars you are ok. Some places might try and say they wont pass. Those places would be like firestone and such.

The ET streets have "D.O.T." stamped on the sides. So unless they are old and have been burned out alot where they totally have none of their original tread, they are "supposed" to be 50-state-legal. If they argue with you, just keep showing them the D.O.T. on the tire.

i know I was told by a MD cop that he didn't care what the side said he felt they were unsafe and shouldn't be on the road and made me park my car.. good thing I had other wheels to swap to cuz he wanted to yank my car

Bill and I both are not required to have emissions tests yet but we hear it is coming....

Never seen a 4" diameter converter....

UH -OH.. I think as of 1-01-04 ALL COUNTIES MUST PASS A VISUAL INSPECTION. We had no emmisions till then, evey car from 1975-up has to have ALL of the factory emissions equipment. It has to LOOK like it works, no hi-flow converters or anything . I am in the middle of a 351w swap in a 79 Capri, looks like I am gonna have to do a specially constructed or street rod title. (only loophole I've found to date) BOY THE NATIVES ARE RESTLESS
Any idea how many emissions parts have been scrapped since 75, wow!

I thought I read on the PA site that any car driven under 5000 miles per year does not have to be tested?

I would check the Penndot website. I attended a meeting on this subject and read my paperwork I was issued as an inspector. ONE BIG GRAY AREA. I don't know hardly anything. I have been told the waivers are only for the sniffer/dyno type tests, and the equipment must be there on waivered vehicles, just doesn't have to work. Hope this helps, It sucks, I'M LIVIN IT TOO. P.s. I am in the "42 county area" and we have only a visual inspection, tacked on to the safety inspection, thus no parts, no visual inspection pass, no saftey inspection sticker.
2/32" from the wear bar to the tread top, (tread depth)

I was told that the "old lady" type of "exemption" was for people driving under 5k per year, but that even then, the parts had to be there. It was to keep fixed income elderly people with old cars from having to pay to fix them. (not stangers trying to build hp) So that is why the parts had to be there. But anyhow, it is a gray gray area and I myself am lost.. I hope you are correct, and I hope to hear some news from PennDot.

the Enhanced Safety Inspection?
Yes. Vehicles weighing over 11,000 pounds and vehicles currently exempt from a safety
inspection. Vehicles registered as a classic or collectible vehicle will be exempt from
only the anti-tampering portion of the safety inspection. Exemptions are determined by
the vehicle registration or by a certified safety inspection mechanic.
Can I get a waiver if my vehicle fails the Visual Anti-Tampering Check?
No. Waivers will not be issued to vehicles that do not pass the Visual Anti-Tampering
Check. Any modification that changes the vehicle from a certified configuration to a noncertified
configuration is considered tampering and the vehicle would not pass the safety
inspection.


Are any vehicles exempt from Pennsylvania’s emissions program?
Yes. Vehicles will be exempt from the program if:
• the vehicle has been owned for one year and driven less than 5,000 miles in the
prior year. However, motorists must go to an emissions inspection station to
verify the vehicle’s mileage and receive an exemption sticker. Motorists can do
this when they get their safety inspection if the station performs both types of
inspections.
• the vehicle is a new car, not previously titled and has less than 5,000 miles
before registration; motorists should receive an exemption sticker valid for up to
12 months upon receipt of the new car from your new car dealer.
Exemptions are determined by a certified emissions inspector.
Will motorists still need an emissions inspection sticker if their vehicle is exempt
from the emissions inspection program?
Yes. Even if the vehicle is exempt from the emissions inspection program motorists will
still need to go to an inspection station to receive an exemption sticker for the vehicle.
The station can charge a fee to issue an exemption sticker.
Are any vehicles excluded from Pennsylvania’s emissions program?
Yes. Vehicles will be excluded from the program if:
• the vehicle is registered as a street rod, classic, collectible, antique or specially
