Ethanol Sucks

But it's only a matter of time til those bastids take it from everyone

It must be different in your area because I can't get away
from the 10% ethanol at the gasoline stations.I just try to use the
best gasoline I can hoping I don't get a bad tank of gas.The best gas
in my area is always the most expensive.

Gasohol came out in the late 70's early 80's and quickly
fell by the wayside, So will E85. it's a great Idea but with 25-30% loss in fuel mileage and loss in HP, Meaning people will be filling up more often. and in the long run you'll be spending more $$ . Also the ccost of converting older cars to run on this stuff will cause E85
to go away...


gasohol, a gasoline extender made from a mixture of gasoline (90%) and ethanol (10%; often obtained by fermenting agricultural crops or crop wastes) or gasoline (97%) and methanol, or wood alcohol (3%). Gasohol has higher octane, or antiknock, properties than gasoline and burns more slowly, coolly, and completely, resulting in reduced emissions of some pollutants, but it also vaporizes more readily, potentially aggravating ozone pollution in warm weather. Ethanol-based gasohol is expensive and energy intensive to produce, and can damage rubber seals and diaphragms and certain finishes if the ethanol is present in higher concentrations. Since 1998, however, many American automobiles have been equipped to enable them to run on E85, a mixture of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. Methanol-based gasohol is also expensive to produce and is toxic and corrosive, and its emissions produce cancer-causing formaldehyde.

Yeah my car was dyno tuned on a DynoJet. It sucks cuz I was there all day with them tuning it. I mean they could have left the tune where it dynoed at 294 rwhp but it wouldn't have been safe for me cuz it would lean out top end. I just wish i could find a place without ethanol but i also heard that all gas has a little amount of ethanol in it even before this whole 10% ethanol thing happened. My dad was telling me they did this ethanol thing back in the 70's also.

Well how lean was it? And was it audibly knocking? If the A/F was under 14-1 and there was NO knock. Take it back, demand they bump the timing to where you make 290ish RWHP. If it isnt knocking on that much timing....pulling it back to 277 is overkill.


And I have filled up with that 10% crap in houston....honestly I couldnt feel a difference. Im not sure if it was, but it had that warning on the pump that it may contain up to 10%.
But then again it could be that "cobra killer" tune .

I work for a pipeline company. We load/unload ethanol here. At one time we unloaded it by rail car. These rail car hold about 29000gals of the stuff. The demand of ethanol dropped and we tore down our rail car off loading skid. Now, the demand is back up. We have suppliers truck it in. We load both E85 and 90/10 here. The driver selects what he wants and the computer does the work. If you guys think ethanol sucks, There is another thing coming down the "pipe". The EPA wants reduced emissions more. They are telling the refineries to dractically reduce the sulfur content in all fuels. Some of the smaller refineries can't reduce the amount of sulfur so they we get a waiver. They will be out of business if they can't reduce the sulfur content by the waivers ends. I'm not sure how long the waiver is good for. Also, those guys that have diesel vehicles may have big problems. The sulfur content is dropping from around 500ppm to 15ppm. The sulfur is used to lubricate the heads. There will be a Lubricity additive added to every load of diesel. The problem is that something it doesn't give the right amount of additive. I can see alot of diesel motors paper weights after this deal. Just a little info. Pearl02

my car also runs like trash w/ a 10% ethanol blend... this stuff is inescapable
