I'm ready to take my 06 to the track. The rules (locally) indicate that <13.99 requires a helmet and a driveshaft loop. With the mod's I have, I'm sure the car will make this mark. Do you think I will be able to get in to a test and tune w/o these safety requirements or will I be stopped? Most anyone knows that the S197 is capable of high 13's. THX

You will be asked if you have a helmet at tech inspection. If not, they probably will not let you run. It's for your safety, and there are quite a few options out there under $100. Unless you're blown, you probably won't be asked if you have a driveshaft loop. They usually won't look at a car that has basic bolt-ons. If you're just running test and tune, I don't think a drive-shaft loop is required unless you're running 12.99 or lower.

I thought most tracks didn't require a 'loop for a car on street tires?

you will def need a helmet, some tracks require them even if you run 19's.

I've been 13.20's on radials and i have no loop yet, ill prob keep running it without loop until they tell me or until im in the 12's.

but i wont be in the 12's any time soon now.. Id rather save up for an open wheel car now.

Get a helmet go to the track say its stock w/ minor bot ons and have a good time.

13.99 or faster for a helmet and it needs to be a Snell SA 2005 or better if you are going to buy one. The DS loop is never really checked but if you start to dip into the 12s I would get one, especially if you are an M5 car and throw on some DRs or slicks.

ive been lucky and have not been required to wear a helmet. i guess since most S197s i have seen at my track are about a half second slower than me (1/8th mile) i get overlooked

With a stock appearing vehicle you should not need the ds loop at 13.99. Helmets are not reqd at that et, except that most tracks have gone or are headed to the everyone wears a helmet rule. Probably ok up to drag radials. If you have MT's or slicks they may require the loop and long wheel lugs.

Safer that way.

Best way to deal with this is to get the NHRA rulebook, or go to their site and look at the quick list of major requirements.

But I have been to a track where you can run with no helmet, the top down and you do not have to set your Budweiser in the cup holder while you run.

So, it varies slightly from track to track.
