Ever lose a disc brake shield while driving down the road?

I was freaked out by the noise. I don't know what the hell happened, but one (or maybe two) of the rivets must have pulled through somehow and it was dragging on the disc. Made the worst rotational noise I have ever heard. I went to make a left hand turn to stop and find out what it was and I heard a "THUNK! clang" stopped the car, walked back to the intersection, and sure enough, my front drivers side shield was laying on the ground flattened from running over it.

I knew the rivets weren't tight because it would rattle when I went over big bumps....but I didn't ever picture this happening.

Can't say that I have. Hell, I had to drill and chisel the rivets on mine. Those SOB's weren't going anywhere.

I had one bend onto the rotor for no apparent reason, I got to work and I heard rotational scraping, I bent the sheild back in place; I didnt run over anything during my drive.

It wasnt on a mustang BTW.
