Ever use supercharger on stock block before?

Heres the deal. I love my 95 and my wife loves it too because its power everything and drive so nice and quiet. But since Im parting out my 85 I'm going to drop the suspension, built rear and TKO into the 95 (currently, its an auto). I also want to give it some power but I dont want it to lose ANY driveability, I dont want it to lope, I dont want it sluggish off the line, I dont want to lose mileage, I dont want to be too steep and lose topend, and I dont want to have it loud. So I was thinking about leaving the long block alone and not even pull out the dizzy. Has anyone ever run a basic 6 lb blower on a stock block? The only other mods it would get are headers, intake manifold, throttle body and of course the supercharger. I'll also step up to the according injectors, MAF and yadda yadda. I dont need insane power but I think a good intake flow, supercharger and intake manifold would really wake things up. Obviously heads and cam would help but I hate aluminum heads and a cam is the first thing to kill the stock affect so no advice on swapping that stuff. Nor do I want iron heads because P heads require different headers and I already have some, and the World heads only come in 180 and 200 which are both too large for a stock feeling 302. Sound like a challenge or what?

I think, if you get a mild supercharger set up, like the A trim for vortech, you are better off getting HCI, since you would get about the same HP, and be a little more reliable, IMO. A mild cam wouldn't be noticable too much. I am in the same boat in a way, since an A trim will cost about the same as HCI give or take a few hundred. Needless to say, I am leaning towards heads and cam. BTW, all of the guys I know with SC's have the stock block.

Yeah, I was looking at the powerdyne. Its at $2200 for the 94-95 model and its self contained for easy clean install. Says it only take like 4 hours to install. Again, with the HCI, its not a good idea for this car because I dont want to loose any driveability and I know from previous experience that even just the E303 will rock the car a little and again I hate aluminum heads because you have to worry about extensive mileage, setting up the drivetrain correctly, and overheating. This car will see lots of road trips, my wife driving and so on, so I dont want to go that route. Besides it has no leaks and I'd like to leave it that way and it cant stay down for a long time so I cant go pulling the pan and timing cover to change the cam. If it aint broke, dont fix it. Besides, I dont think an HCI swap will make as much power as a supercharger and intake swap. The only HCI swap that would would be too racey for a stock feeling 302. Besides, I want all my power to comes in before 5500 so its nice and torque and very solid on the street. I dont want to have to rev this thing out and by using a street intake, stock cam, and 6 lb blower I will accomplish just that. The stock cam is fairly decent for supercharging and Im changing the intake, so the only bottle neck is the heads which the supercharger will make up for any deficiencies they have. Oh yeah, Im not really talking about the stock block, Im talking about the stock long block. I know you can supercharge a stock block. I just did it on my 85 and made 516 at the wheels. As for price, its the same, so why not do the easier to install and more reliable option, the supercharger. Worst case scenario, it goes bad and I take it off in 2 hours and car is back to normal. With an HCI, you overheat a head or setup the valvetrain wrong your screwed and the car is down for a whole weekend again, at least.

my buddys cars got one and the only problem he had was his tranny not havin a shift kit or anything so it would fly up through first to fast and ride second and hit third right away but if your gonna have a 5spd it should be fun. best part is if you wanna go back to reality you just gotta take off the belt.

I am going to go this same route pretty soon. A lot of my friends have stock blocks and have no problems. I am going to keep the stock cam and go with a Novi 2000. A stock block should be fine up to about 500 HP or so.

I guess nobody is understanding my question. I know how much power a stock block will take since I just pulled 625 at the flywheel with my 85. I dont care how much power the block will support!! I just wanted to know whos installed a supercharger on a bone stock 5.0 engine, and if so how did it run? Thanks for the info Wisconsin. I just want to know what they needed, how the engine responded and how much power they gained. Stuff like that.

Im doing it, Ive been doing it. Nothing on my longblock has been touched and my car runs hard. Id reccomend a NOVI 1000 but they arent made for your car. Powerdyne I heard is real cheap and easy to rebuild so look into one of them. I love my setup. I fire up the car and its got a rock steady 750 RPM purring idle. If I drive around normally, well so does the car. The only difference is that when I put the pedal to the floor the car goes alot more than stock. It literally drives like it did when it was stock. But thats what I aimed for. I dont like funky stuff. If I want a racecar, Ill buy one.

See, thats exactly what I want. I have a racecar so know I just want a stock mustang thats fast, and you cant really do that with cams, high comp and big flowing heads. Cant beat 300 to the wheels while retaining all stock feel. Sounds good. I'm going with the Powerdyne since its only $2200 and it says you dont have to change your fuel pump or anything, you just drop in the FMU and your done. Did you change your air inlet parts like the throttle body or MAF?

Didnt change any of that stuff. But then again I got a Cobra which already has a 65mm Throttle body and a 70mm MAF so your results will vary. The only stuff I changed is in my sig. Actually Ill be taking off the X pipe next week cuz I have to go to a test only smog. The car is so quiet (and still pretty fast) with the stock H pipe its like a womans GT. I really do reccomend getting a GSS340 intank fuel pump though. The fuel pump is quiet so dont worry about it. At 6psi I am seeing 80psi fuel pressure and my stock 110 lph (bigger than the GTs 88lph) fuel pump definetly did not cut it. I dont want you blowing your **** up.

ill go more in depth if this helps. he bought it on ebay from some dude in cali who also had it on a stock fox body minus the new computer and mafs that came with the charger (had to switch to mass air for the charger cause it was an 88). guess he ran low 13s on street tires and broke 12 a couple times. 8lb pulley. you need new plugs gapped accordingly, tranny oil i think its type f or somethin for the supercharger. fuel pressure regulator is reccomended like somethin from bbk. if its just a stock motor plus the charger your stock injectors are reccomended. his is a paxton and it was pretty simple to install. ****tiest part is switchin spark plugs on the passenger side. car drove great and you could definatly tell it had some nut. but yah it felt like a plain old 5oh till you got on the go pedal so its really practical for what your lookin at.

Yeah, I love my D-1 procharger but its not the best choice for this combo. Yeah, I didnt completely trust that the stock fuel pump would be enough for the supercharger but I can believe reusing the stock injectors because the FMU is helping out. I think I may just even leave the stock intake on and everything. Even if the blower with stock motor only makes 50 more horses thats 50 horses which is seat of the pants power. I'm also going to get a regulator because it makes A/F tuning so much easier.

Those stock injectors will be fine. On the 19#ers you should be around 90-100psi fuel pressure at 6 psi. Leave it all stock. Youd only have to change things if you wanted to.

I also forgot to say that if a Kenne Bell 1500 is in your price range then that would be better. Screw blowers are better than centri blowers for the street. Also, its like getting an upper intake manifold for free. But the powerdyne is not bad. This is a personal decision but Im just pointing out another option for you.
