I have MAC LT's, MAC prochamber (catless), and flowmaster catback. I think that there is still some drone, although I've never been certain just what drone sounds like (yeah, I've heard a million descriptions). I also have sound deading, so that may reduce the drone a bit, too. If I were to get a new catback, I'd go chamberless, as I am sick of hearing what I believe to be drone. BUT I do love the flowmaster (chambered) sound, so I am a bit scared, too.

Something else to consider in your mix is tailpipe design. For me, the magnaflow/bassani/borla have ugly tailpipes. I like a straight, polished 2.5" pipe with a cut tip and w/o that fugly "add on big tip" look. Your then looking at dynomax, flowmaster, and MAC. Then that about only leaves (me) dynomax as a chamberless choice.

Hey Rick, long time no talk to ya buddy, hows things been?

This catback thing is something I've been puttin off cause I'm uncertain about the unknown

I just hate to be in these kinds of situations

Some of the guys on another site tell me that the straight through cat backs will give the most gain but will sound not so good . Then they say the chambered cat backs will give a little less gain cause they are more restrictive but will sound much better.

I could give a rats azz about how it sounds ............

I'm lookin for some more rwhp if you know what I mean.

I was expecting something in the 5 to 10rwhp range and I gotta tell you I always thought all of the various cat backs were about the same in the gain department and the main difference was in how they sounded.

I know I got to get louder for some gain but I don't wanna get too loud

If this is gonna be the kind of deal where I gotta have loud & drone to pick up say 8rwhp OR if I don't want too loud and no or very little drone I'm only gonna pick up like 4rwhp then ............... screw that all together
I'll just stick with the stock cat back.

The drone scares me way more than a little more db level in exhaust noise.

Grady,
I have heard a lot of different exhaust combos in person and i do think that mine is one of the loudest. I heard an O/R X and Magnaflow catback and that was throaty but pretty quiet. I would think with a catted X it would be a good combo for someone that is looking for a good quiet catback, not to mention that magnaflows fitment is top notch.

Thanks for the reply John

I'm gathering all the info so I can make a decision one way or the other, lol.

Starting to think my Mac cat h-pipe is gonna make things a little louder than if I had gone with a cat x-pipe but I'm gonna stick with it.

I've seen some talk about Magna Flow and Magna Pak. If I understand correctly the Magna Pak is the louder of the two

Anyhow, its late and I'm exhausted with all of this stuff.

I have a Magnaflow Catback with a Bassani catted x-pipe. The car is real quiet when just cruising around, ahas almost no drone. As I get higher in the rpms, the car screams like there is no tomorrow. It is quiet when I want it to be, and loud when I get on it. I like it.

The fitment was good, except for one thing (Magnaflow states this in their directions): You may have to cut the passenger side flowtube in order to get the catback to fit correctly. I had to cut about 2.5 inches off to get it to fit right with my Bassani x-pipe.

Overall I am very happy with it. The whole catback is completly stainless steel, which is nice, but not really needed in Arizona. At times I wish it were a little louder, but that's ok. It wasn't my goal to have the loudest Mustang in town, as this car is my daily driver.

Hope I helped, and good luck with your decision.

Bassani fit is excellent, borla also fits like a glove, my one gripe is my headers (which are bbk) they like to leak a little from the header to midpipe joint. I will be changing these to Bassani as well when I put my AFR's and new cam back on.

I just wanted to thank all you guys for the cat back info you shared which will be a big help in making my decision.

I've been to the various sites like Borla, Dynomax, and the like and I've seen a couple of things that surprised me.

1. Some claim a 7 to 15% gain ............Gimme a break

I'd love 7% on a 300 horse combo but I figure its gonna be more like a 5 to 10 horse gain. Maybe they are talking about some of those Chevy exhausts that have both pipes going into one muffler and then back to two pipes at the rear.

2. They say the system is stainless steel but after seeing how much money they want for the catback I just gotta believe the coating is really gold plate I've seen prices in the $600 to $900 range for some of those cat backs

I've always known the cat back mod was one of the worst gains for the buck spent but I had no idea it could be this bad if you wanted one of the better quality cat backs

For now I think I've ruled out chambered cat backs and since my 95 is only a weekend toy I just can't see the expense of the stainless steel cat backs.

As I get closer with my decision I'll run it buy you guys for your final input.

Again, thanks guys
