I have an 07 pony, stock V6. I really want to get a new exhaust to pump up the sound and horsepower. I really don't care about the price, I just need some solid advice on where I should look and other performance tips I need to know. :D I found some cool stuff on American Muscle online, but I don't know if the GT exhaust can be put on a V6 engine?

A couple of suggestions

Hey Hope,

I have done three different exhaust combo's on the 05 and up V6 cars. They have all turned out really good. Here are the combo's that I have used:

1) My wife's 06 Pony package convertible - I purchsed the Flowmaster American Thunder Axle Back kit from Mustangs Unlimited. The tips are quite large at 4" but it looks really good on the car. I cut the half moons in the bumper and then I took the mufflers to my exhaust shop and had them fabricate a true dual exhaust system underneath the car out of 2 1/2 inch pipe (that is the factory size pipe). They made an H-Pipe for it also. The sound is awesome at idle and still pretty good through the RPM's although you can tell it is a 6. There is a pretty obnoxious drone with this kit but it is really worth it for the looks, sound, and performance.

2) My FIL's 05 V6 Hardtop - I purchased a take off GT exhaust kit from Newtakeoff.com. I cut the half moons in the bumper and took it to my exhaust shop and had them leave the factory exhaust in place till just before the rear end. They put in a y-pipe just ahead of the rear end and ran the dual pipes to the mufflers at the back of the car. It looked great but was significantly quieter than my wife's car is. My FIL decided he wanted more sound so he took it back to the shop last week and had them do the same thing that they did on my wife's car except they left the factory ford mufflers in place. It definitely sounds better but not quite as deep as my wife's car. My FIL said that there is a little more drone than before but nothing obnoxious.

3) One of my friends bought an 08 Grabber Orange Grabber Edition Mustang. I cut the half moons in the bumper and he ran true duals underneath with an H-pipe. He ran 3 chamber flowmasters with aftermarket 3" tips out the back. It looks really good and has a nice sound at idle. To my ears, it does have a little bit of the bumblebee sound when he really gets on it. It is not like the Honda's though. He said that there is a drone in the cabin but he has gotten used to it pretty quickly.

By the way...here are the prices:

Flowmaster american thunder kit - $379 plus 200 for installation

Take Off Muffler Kit - $110 plus 200 for the installation

Flowmaster 3 chambers - 190 for the mufflers, 100 for the tips, and 200 for installation.

Feel free to ask any other questions. This is a really nice upgrade for these cars. I hope that this helps.
