I'm trying to pimp out my 03 gt's exhaust system. I currently am running Roush side exhaust with Spintech mufflers. My next step is to get a high flow H-pipe and one of my friends recommends cut outs. My question is what exactly are cut outs? How do they work? Where can I get them? And are they illegal in Texas?

There are different types of cut outs. Basically you weld a y pipe on to the exhaust and you can bypass to the exhaust out using different methods. You can weld them on to the midpipe right after the headers/manifolds or right before the mufflers. There are electric, manual release, and bolt on/off. The electric ones have a switch that allows you to open and close the cut outs. Manuals have a lever that pulls a cable that allows you to open and close. Then the bolt on and off have you go under the car and unblot a plate that covers to cut out opening.

These guys sell a good electric cut out. My friend has them on his '01 GT.

Those ones suck, at least they did for me. Would not close completely when you shut them which caused the nastiest leak possible, sounded horrible. I ended up buying a new mid pipe and got rid of them.

He likes them. He has them right before the mufflers. Makes it louder and deeper. Look on quicktimeperformance's site, they have a video of a set on a Roush. Just make sure the when you do the install you have enought ground clearance. He had to get one replaced after it got damaged on a speed bump.

How much had his car been dropped? I plan on dropping mine about an inch and a half (from stock gt height).

does this valve also close exhaust from headers TO mufflers when the dump valve is open....or does it bascially also leak into the mufflers as well when open..?

I don't know how much of a drop. He has Eibach springs. It was just a bad install. The installer angled them too close to the ground and one of them caught a speed bump.

It doesn't close off the exhaust to mufflers. But there are some that do. I don't know where to get those but I have seen them. Instead of a valve its like a door that slides side to side.
