i WANT TO CUT MY TAILPIPES off and get turndowns but im afraid of how its gonna sound. how does it sound for the people that have them already? what do you all think?

right now i have 2 chamber flows with o/r h-pipe

my car has always had dumps on it and its not loud, my friend has a stang with headers, ORH and flows with tailpipes, sounds the same as mine did when i had flows. mine maybe a lil louder.

i think an LX looks nice with a good set of tailpipe sticking out, GTs look funny to me with tails and its just easier to dump it, easier when taking exhaust out and whatnot.

i have bbk equal length shorties, mac pro chamber anb flomaster 40 series with 3" dump. from my experence a dump shakes the ground when its idling , or drive by. i think its more throaty, with tails it has more of an echo. plus depends on the type of muffler with the amount of chambers, for interior noise. mine is loud inside and out and i love it. i cant wait for a cam for the lope. good luck

I did dumps (2 chamber flows) when I did my rear suspension (last weekend) and the sound is a lot louder inside the car. It's pretty cool for about the first couple days but I got a serious headache after driving it for about an hour.

you cant hear the drone and how loud a car really is in a video with dumps, I dont have dumps but I dont have tailpipes, my exhaust ends at my mufflers, its not loud, the incar sound and vibrations arent bad at all because it dosent bounce off the ground, its loud though, but I love it, ill never have tailpipes on a gt.

On my 91 I ran O/R H into a set of 2 chamber flows and like mob no tail pipes or dumps just straight out of the muffler.

My car was loud as hell both inside and outside. And at 2000 rpm, about 80 mph with my 2.73s, it droned and would rattle change if I had it sitting in the console. I drove the car for 6 years like that. I loved the sound but am pretty sure that it did some damage to my hearing, or at least that is what I tell the wife :D

IMO it all depends on the muffler and where the exhaust exits the car is how loud and if you’ll start to smell fumes inside or not.

Borla mufflers are fairly quite to start with so with dumps there not really that loud.
With the full length tail pipes there was a very slight drome, but once I cut the pipes I've never noticed any drome.
My turn downs face toward the ground and toward the rear tires and I sat in the car in traffic and never smelt the exhaust inside the car.

I have had a few combos at this point. I started with shorty heads, catted 2.5' H-pipe and dumped 40 series flows. It was OK it was just loud and didnt have any tone to it. Then i went with an O/R h pipe and it made a big difference the sound was much meaner but the idling vabrations, drone, and interior resonance were horrible. couldnt even order food at a drive thru! It sounded great at high revs when you were all on it but just cruisin it sounded $h/ty. I just recently put tailpipes back on it and i would never go back to dumps! the tails sound much cleaner and have a better tone especially in the cruising rpms.

i started with mac shorties, o/r x and 2 chamber flows with tails.

then i took the tails off that setup and ran dumps.

finally, i recently swaped out the 2 chambers for a set of spintech pro streets ( still using the o/r x ) and had the tails put back on. now the car is really loud outside, fairly quiet inside and no exhaust fumes inside or black crap on the rear bumper.

i get alot of compliments on the exhaust and it doesnt sound like all the other mustangs. its different, some like it - some dont
