My brother just purchased a new GT and asked me if I knew what Mufflers or Cat Back systems to get to eventualy compliment an X-pipe. I am a Fox Body(5.0)guy so I dont know about 4.6 exhaust systems to much. Meaning what set ups sound best. So what Mufflers or Cat backs sound good with X-Pipes? What are some of you using?

Thanks in advance!

Exhausts are more or less the same for 4.6 as were for 5.0. And as far as sound goes, it's subjective. My advice? Head to where the local modV8 guys hang out and listen to their pipes and ask what they got.

Go with Flowmaster American Thunder 2 chamber muffler Cat back with 3 inch tips and 2 1/2 inch Pipes. And go with either BBK x pipe or Magna Flow x pipes. I have the Cat back system im just waiting for more money to get either one of those x pipes w/cats. I heard BBK xpipe and Magna flow x pipe goes great with the FLowmaster setup!

I'd recommend an H pipe with Flowmasters.

Muscle car sound, Flowmaster. Loud as hell, SLP. Refined, Bassani and Borla. Magnaflows are a popular choice because of price, and they flow very well.

Flowmaster 2 chambers with the X-pipe. Sounds great - clean and smooth tone with the X, and a racier sound when you get on it. People say X-pipe and Flows sound bad/raspy and only run H-pipe with them - this is bs - sounds great.

IMO (and a lot of other people's opinion) Flowmasters (any chambered mufflers) do sound better with an H pipe.
I think people just want an X pipe because it's an "X" and an "H" is like boring or something...I swear to God...
Head over to www.mustangexhaust.com and decide for yourself...

My vote goes to 2 Chamber Flows/Mac Pro-Chamber mid-pipe. Of course Im somewhat biased, but it seems pretty widley acknowledged that this is a great sounding combo. I recently added two Magnaflow cats to my Pro-Chamber and was pleasently surprised by the results. The car is a lot easier to live with now (isnt un-godly loud inside the car, and the car doesnt smell like gas anymore.) The car still lets it all hang out at full throttle, and actually sounds better to me. It has a lower, more refined sound with the cats. Didnt really notice any power loss either. Actually picked up some low end due to the added backpressure vs. the un-catted exhaust. Car has an easier time breaking them loose, and seems to chirp second harder than it did before. I actually got a good chirp out of 3rd for the first time in a long time with this set-up.

I run an H-pipe with my 3 chamber flowmasters . But this was due to rumor control that flows sound better with h's. I am gonna let my brother listen to the exhaust website fro himself. That way he can decide. Because if it was up to me I would just put on 2 chamber flowmasters and an X-pipe. But then again maybe I would go with a magna flow cat back with an x pipe. Thanks for all of your input guys!

If youre going with an o/r H then go with the magnapack cat-back. If you go with a catted X the packs are too loud IMO. I just installed the magnaflow catted X with the magnaflow cat-back this weekend and I LOVE it. Sounds like the strong muscle car it is.

I have the magnaflow catted X and the magnapack cat back. Amazing sound and haven't had one bad comment on it yet. You won't be disappointed.

3 chamber Flowmaster welded into the stock catback. Just loud enough that it makes you wonder what's under the hood. I like it.

I love my exhaust tone. Not as good as before but I still like it. I am running a catted h-pipe instead of my off road one. So now have 2 h-pipes hanging up in the garage, the stock one and the off road one. I think I might hang this one up next to the stock on and put my off road one back on.
