I have a set of hooker supercomps that were bought new/used for a II. I think I got lied to because the drivers side is now beaten flat with a hammer in many many places and still is not even close. Anybody know of a "drop in" header that works on the 302 OR if the exhaust m,anifolds are specific to a 78, or if anything might work. I know a little beating and banging is to be expected unless you are putting headers on a 69 camaro!
Thanks! Mark

Hookers fit perfectly.

It sounds to me like either A- you have the wrong headers (possible Pinto swap headers, they are different) or B- your car may be setup in a non-OEM fashion.

I thought the Hookers required removal/modification of the fenderwells. Do they really bolt in without having to go under the crossmember like the Heddmans?

I think it depends on which Hooker headers you get.. I dunno about the 302 ones, but the 351w Pinto swap headers force you to send 2 tubes outside the fenders, and 2 stay inside the fenders.

Hooker Super comp headers for the Mustang II w/ 302 V8, p/n: 6120, do not usually require any modifications, I say usually because some one's car probably does require some grinding or other minor alterations.

6120 fit like a glove, no modification to a stock drivetrain.
the 351 swap headers definately require mods to the inner fenders and
strut bars. the 2 piece hedmans also fit no problem but the #1 cyl
drops under the crossmember which is ok at best.
if your having problems with the hookers you probably got the old school ones for a II which had a different part# 6118 , these dont fit all that great
but they do fit with a little hammering to to drv's side. they havent made these for over 15 yrs. the 70's style 6118 were cheaply made.
the 6120 super-comp(newer) version is a bit on the expensive side 250.oo -
300.oo... you should have a stamped part# on the flange part of the header where it bolts to the head.
...snap a pic...
