Hey good people, first time poster.

I just bought my dream car today 2010 mustang GT coupe...its been 10 years almost to the weekend since I wrecked my 5.0, now I finally get redemption! I am a huge newbie when it comes to modifications but its a hobby I cant wait to learn more about. First thing is first, I need this puppy to be louder. I want to get flow-masters and was looking to spend maybe around $500, any thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks in advance

Your best bet is to listen for other 5.0's and see what you like. Youtube is a good second source but I think most people agree youtube exhausts sound different in real life. I took a different route personally. I bought a set of stockers, cut the originals open, took out the baffling and welded a section of straight 3" diameter piping in place. Then I hung the modified mufflers back up. I bought the stockers in case I screwed it up or didn't like the sound. I love it. It's fairly loud, sounds like a muscle car and has a unique sound. I've gotten several compliments and some peeps have even asked to take a video of it for someone elses car. I've also heard flowmaster 10 series and it sounded decent as well. You could try unbolting the stockers and run around with the pipe open, to get a feel for what an after market exhaust will sound like (somewhat). It will be quite a bit louder, and have that 'underwater' sound to it in the lower revs but it will be something for comparison and it's fairly easy to do. OH for my setup I payed 40 for the extra stockers and about 15 bucks for the 3" diameter pipe. You will need two 12" sections and you will have to cut them to length. The mufflers are made out of mild steel (not stainless like some think) and are double walled so you will need a cutting wheel (a torch is helpful too). You will also need a welder. I borrowed the wheel, torch and welder from a friend. All told it cost me about 60 bucks. Better than 500 if you have access to the tools and it sounds amazing.

Hop on the classifieds in the forum too. I think there's some people selling some Magnaflows and some Borla S-Type exhaust right now for fairly cheap. Both are great! I personally have the Borla ATAK exhaust and it's amazing, but you'll be paying a pretty penny for it. Jason's custom exhaust sounds pretty cool. I'd like to hear that.

I have a 201o GT Convertible. Things to consider, is this your daily driver? City versus highway miles? I wanted a better sound but I do take long highway drives so I wanted to avoid the systems that have a drone, it can drive you nuts. I went with a Corsa Extreme axle back, loud enoughespecially when I get on it, but quiets down at sustained highway, no drone at all. I got it for a little over $500 on sale.

Congratulations on the new Stang! You have to be careful with the "just want it louder" idea, because you'll end up with a cheap piece of junk that adds a ton of interior drone, and you'll hate it.
