My dad's '96 GT has had this problem for a couple months now. When it first started, the exhaust note would go to a much higher pitch right at 2,500 RPM. It was almost like a whistling sound, but not quite that high pitched. As soon as you passed 2,500 RPM though, it would go away. Now it's starting to do it even in the lower revs, or if you blip the throttle.
What is going on here? I thought either a hole or crack somewhere in the exhaust...someone even suggested something on the exhaust system was loose.
