Exhaust Question... can't find an answer

So it looks like I'm going to be buying a 67 coupe with a rebuilt 351C, but the owner says it came with straight pipes (far to subtle to be used around here ) so I need to know what exhaust system (from the headers back) will work with that car and engine. I've looked at many manufacturers and online stores and can't seem to find one for this car, or its staring me in the face and I don't know what I'm looking at. I like the Flowmaster 2-chamber systems, do they make one for this setup? If so can someone give me a model or part number?

I'm trying to put together my initial budget to get this car back on the road and I want to make sure I don't leave anything out.

On both my cars, I had the local custom muffler shop make my system from the headers back. I supplied the mufflers. My 69/302 has the chrome tips thru the dual exhaust valence and the 69/351c has plain turn downs under the valance.

So you only supplied the mufflers and they fabricated the H-Pipe et al? How much am I looking at for having a custom exhaust done on a 67, generally speaking?

Paid $200 in '95 on one and $250 last summer on the other. Ask around the local car guys and see what shops they recommend.

I always have Midas do my exhaust work (you could use any good exhaust shop). The only way to get a really good fitting exhaust to to have the pipes custom bent and hung. An aluminized exhaust, from the headers back, cost $210 last spring. It included fabrication of the H-pipe, all hangers, and some nice chrome tips. I supplied the Flowmaster Delta-Flow 50's (3 chamber) mufflers. Great fit, no rattles, and a warranty!

You can't find it beacuse it doesn't exist. The 351C only came out in 1970. You can get any kit from the mufflers back, but you'll probably have to get custom pipes done from the manifolds/headers to the mufflers.

Mustangs Unlimited Has Some Kits They Put Together With Flowmaster 40 Series Mufflers.
They Can Hook You Up.
I Have A 69 With A 73 351c And Had A Problem. But If You Buy Headers For The Engine The H-pipe To Tail Pipes Will Line Up.

Thanks Pakrat, I feel like such a noobie

Sort of like the days when the 99 and 2000 models were released and we were all trying to figure out the Romeo/Windsor change and the new Tremec Tranny... ah memories. It'll take some time adjusting from a world of EFI and no spark plug wires to the days of 'old school' but I can't wait!

Not at all. Ya know, there is a reason they teach history in school. No one is born with the facts and the knowledge. I could pin down a year on just about any classic model by looking at it, but I am clueless as to how any of them came except for the Mustang and that took research and learning.

You may enjoy reading a book like this.

In either case it will help, especially when trying to go to places like autozone for parts and they want to type your onfo into the computer. Their system will allow them to select a 351 with a 67' but every single part would come up as N/A, even a fuse or a light bulb, so unfortunately it is up to you the owner to know what is and isn't. Years ago I came across the same issue trying to find parts for my 69' 302 4V which is an upgrade since the 69' 302 was only offered as a 2V. The difference is subtle, but the result is pages full of items and prices as opposed to a page full of N/A.

Sean, I'd look up Super Bee Performance in Arlington. I'm assuming they are still around. Used to be on S. Cooper. You might have to fight through the cloud of pot smoke while you wait, but those guys can cut, bend, and weld exhaust in their sleep.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.
So do they require appointments? Or can you like just show up early in the morning and wander around in a circle until they are ready for you?

Ok, now another question relating to this thread, not drug related.

Since I'm going to have to pay for a custom exhaust system what do y'all think about side exhaust? Not the long pipes down the outside of the car, but simple tips visible under the rear of the doors? I know the sound would be rather loud (thats what the sound system is there for) but is this something that can be done easily?

Yeah, that can be done easily by using mufflers that have the inlet/outlet on the same end. Probably be cheaper too since they don't have to do the over-the-axle loop.
