Exhaust question

I don't like the sound of the X-pipes. It makes them sound semi NASCAR and raspy. The H-pipe is a little better. I run true 2.5 inch duel all the way back! They never cross and I like it that way with Flowmaster old school 40 series! Nice deep rich exhaust tones that come in the car and can be heard by any cop in the area when you get on it, but when you see them you can still sneak by with your foot off the gas! Oh yeah, that is power. Lol!

I think an Xpipe has been dyno-proven to create more HP and torque than an Hpipe. I have never in my life heard anyone complain about an Xpipe until this thread. Personally, I think they sound great! I may be biased though because I have one. As for a pain to put on and off the car to work on.... whats so hard about 6 bolts to the headers and two clamps on the muffler?

I have built/installed several X-pipes from Dr. Gas and I will never use anything else on one of my vehicles. You can't beat the performance and the sound is quite nice also. Anyone complaining about how hard they are to take off is either lazy or looking for a reason not to like them.....since when is it easier to take off the H-pipe? Exhaust work sucks period so you might as well have the best performing pieces available.

What about Dynomax's X-Pipe? Do you guys agree it is as good as Dr. Gas? I hope so it is being installed today. Maybe a little late but oh well. I am also having the 40s Flowmasters installed.

I want the X

I like the sounds of my system and enjoy having the X to hold up the T5 when I am taking it in and out.

than an H pipe sure, but the true classic mustang dual exhaust is just from the headers to muffler on each side then out, no crossing, or attaching to the other pipe, H the pipes connect like an H |\| kinda. Ours goes | | >< the way i see it, straight is better airflow, no?

rebel: not all of the classic cars had straight exhaust like you describe. Some had a transverse muffler...like my GT390 and it was highly inefficient. The crossover helps reduce backpressure in the exhaust system. That is why the new Mustangs and cobras all come with them from the factory now. It is also why race teams use them...a cheap way to free up extra horses.
