Exhaust Question

Ok, before I get shot down, I have been reading all the old posts about a dual exhaust system for a 2.3 Mustang.

My question is this...Are any of you guys running a dual exhaust system on a 2.3 that is NOT a turbo? If you are, do you regret putting the duals on, or is there anything negative you can say about them?

Now, from what I have been reading, it looks like I would need a Y pipe from an exhaust shop, that I would then connect into the 2 mufflers and tails?

Does anyone have pictures of their set up under the car?

Sorry for all the questions, but I have been pondering this for 2 years now, and since I found out that there is a website that has a 2.3 TECH forum, I figured you guys would know the best!!!

yea i have duels on mine and it actually helped alot. i only used one muffler though. i got a single in duel out flowmaster and put it in the stock location, and got some tail pipes from a 5.0. put the drivers side in the stock local, and had a muffler shop run the other part under the car to the other side. sounds pretty decent. go to car domain and look under 93pony, pics of it should be on third page.

I don't see why you couldn't use the y-pipe from an SVO to hang duals out back. I think in the tech sticky there's a Walker part number for the SVO pipe. It may be worth looking into.

Well the SVO y-pipe doesn't fit without modifying the cat pipe (I know this from experience). I suppose if you took the car to a muffler shop, they could make it fit though.

Anyway I ran "dools" on my old '90 Mustang, 2.3L. I used the SVO y-pipe (which had to be modified quite a bit to attach to the stock cat pipe), two flowmaster 40 series (offset/offset, 2 1/4" in/out), and some stock tailpipes from a '00 GT that I found on ebay (this was back in 2001 that I originally did it). Before this I had a single 2 1/4" cat back with one flowmaster 40. After I did the "dools" conversion, it was quieter and didn't sound as good as it had when I just had the single cat-back on. Later I put on a Pacesetter longtube header and it sounded quite a bit better (and it was a lot louder). You can hear it here: http://exhaustsoundclips.com/phpbb2/dload.php?action=file&file_id=231
It sounded decent, but ya know...problem is that once you get over 3000 RPM it's all four cylinder buzz. Not much you can really do to make a four cylinder sound good. I suppose they might not be too bad with turbo mufflers, but I've never heard any set up like that.

the single 40 series sounds pretty good. mine is stock 2 1/4 diameter in and 2 1/2 duel out, make sure you get the sinlge side off set though, i didnt and had to send it back for the right one.

Well the SVO y-pipe doesn't need EXTENSIVE changes...but it is hard to keep the little ball & socket joint on it. That part is curved, and to mate up to the new Mustang cat pipe you need it to be straight.

I too have a 93 with Duals on it. I took the SVO Y and took the duals out to the rear with 40 series Flowmasters on it. I love the sound and I am glad that I had this done. Its going to sound a lot better with the 2.3T in it though...
