when we swapped transmissions a few months ago, we didnt quite get the exhaust back the way it was. i noticed a day or two ago that the tailpipe on the passenger side, right behind the rear tire, is rubbing against the gas tank. its actually rubbed out a contoured spot due to the heat. best i can tell, the tank has a cover over it, which i guess is what is being rubbed by the tailpipe. is this a major concern? should i get this fixed or is it nothing to worry about?

am i right? is there a cover over the tank?

thanks

My Cobra tail pipes have been rubbing my gas tank cover for years!! They aren't worn completely through, so I haven't worried about it. Just keep an eye on it.

My cover is melted on both sides from my tail pipes too. The guy at the exhaust shop was all worried about it but it's never caused any problems for me.

I have this on one side on the fox. I got some thick rubber from the home store and affixed it to the spot on the tank guard that got rubbed. It seemed to help.

Do at your own risk in case the rubber catches on fire.

I had the same problem when i switched to a MAC cat back. Yes, its a cover. I guess it depends on how much has melted away. Does it rattle agaist the upper control arm? I just took off the tail pipes. Don't know if that is legal though.
