i want to put new exhaust on my 65. right now i have hooker comp long tubs to 2 1/2 inch dual 40 series flowmasters all the way out the back. im getting tired of the sound, dont get my wrong it sounds bad ass, but everybody, around here atleast, has flowmaster and they all sound the same...i want something different. i dont want it all the way out the back so i want to bring it out infront of the rear wheels. the only muffler i can think of that is pretty low profile are glasspacks. anybody know of any other sweet sounding low profile muflers?

AND secondly, what about low profile rectangular tubbing... would that sound weird, different, good, etc? any suggestions are welcomed.

thanks guys

I have a set of exhaust with side exits. 2 1/2" pipe with tube type DynoMax's that run along the tunnel next to the drive shaft. Have seen as large as 3 1/2" pipe used that were "flatten" aka NASCAR style and they looked pretty neat.

The noise level is going to pick up quite a bit with "side" pipes so be prepared for that.

For side exhaust you need mufflers that are front in and front out. Basically they are a U inside. I just pulled my tailpipes off and went with turndowns that are angled down and out in front of the rear diff. Sounds great with the JBA headers, full custom 2.5 mandrels and Borla Pro-XS mufflers.

Spintech mufflers

Personally, id keep the exhaust all the way out the back. Start by just swapping in some spintech mufflers and see how you like it. You may not want to change anything else.

Are you running true duals, an xpipe, or an hpipe?

I have mine dump towards the ground before the rear axle. I would HIGHLY suggest this for this reason...When you are stopped at idle, or going slow, the sound resonates between the ground and the bottom of the car making it LOUD, BUT when on the highway, the sound doesnt get a chance to resonate and its SO quiet. Thats how I have mine done, and at a stop light you cant carry on a conversation, but on the highway, it is so quiet, ive heard BMW's louder than mine.

Why do you need low profile mufflers??? I have turbo mufflers and they arent low profile. Just stick em right at the end of the tranny tailhousing, they should fit fine there.

When I redo mine eventually its getting ceramic long tubes with 2.5" pipe with an h-pipe and magnaflos or dynomax's and getting dumped before the rear axle :D

i need low profile because i want the pipes to come out the side of the car and the indent near the rear dif is to far back for that, unless suggested by GT2K where a U muffler can be used. i had the same set up( dual 40 series) dumping before the rear diff on a falcon and it was a lil to loud thats why im thinking out the side.

I dont have an H or X pipe...what would they do for me?
