Exhaust Tip Loose.

I got my exhaust put on today and while I was driving home I heard a slight hitting. I look and my driverside exhaust tip and it is loose.

Has anyone had this problem, the clamp piece wont tightn any more so the tip is a little loose? Also is this something I can fix at home?

A friend at Ford did it for me so if I cant fix it I have to take it back and he has to add some kind of tightner Luckly enough it was only $75 to install an O/R X and a Catback.

Love the sound though and I can feel a slight gain on the butt-dyno. Hopefuly the gain is good.

I dont know if there is something I can buy at a hardware store to fix this or not.

Just get them welded.. it costs like 15-20 bucks at most exhaust shops if you already have the tips on.. they just run the weld around it and call it done.

one of my magnaflow tips on my catback keeps losening up also...its done that since i installed it.

I had to re-tighten my tips 2 or 3 times, but after that I havent had a problem, and Mine has been on for more than a year. Dosent really ever bother me, and is not really worth having them welded.

check to see if its the tip on the piping for the exhaust hanger. if its a hanger issue, just take it to some muffler shop and have them re-weld it.

I've had mine on for two years and have only recently had to retighten them. Listen to streetstang03, I have noticed that the hangers are quite long and do bang on the tips.

15-20 bucks isn't worth eliminating the clanking, retightening, looking crooked, falling off, etc? Guess the economy is REAL bad where you live.

I had it fixed to day, he said it should be good now.

The thing is now I have something rubbing or hitting when I go over bumps Im just gonna wait until Im in his area and have him fix it.

Happened to me. I used thread lock on the set screw 3 years ago. Never come loose since.

Hmm. My problem is exactly opposite. I've had my Mac system for a little over a year now, and the tips won't budge, even with the bolt that holds them tight completely out. I remember, about two months after installing the system, I went under to readjust everything, and to check for leaks, and when I realigned the mufflers, the tips were crooked. It took some serious oomph to twist them back, and I still don't have the passenger one dead on. I can only imagine how tight they would be, if I tried to move them now. Oh, and, $20 to weld everything up, is the best idea ever. I had clamps on the system on my Ranger, and that was crapola. Welded it all up, and it was rockin'. +1 for welding over clamping.

The Bassani I had on my GT used to do that too. I forgot what I used put I put something inside the clamp so it would fit tighter until I could get it welded.

I'm willing to bet you are hitting the sway bar. Lots of people have this problem, myself included. I was able to adjust the tailpipes to make it a little better, but I never got rid of it. I ended up selling it and got something else.

Funny.
I just had my Bassani Catback installed.
Originally, I was going to have it welded.
But people on here said "noooo, just clamp it. Welding voids warranty. Clamps are better..."
Now this thread says to weld.

Anyhow, so far the clamps are just fine.
I guess I'm glad I used the clamps in case I need to adjust things.
