Now that the Xenon kit is off, the little 6" long, 3" diameter tips look like A$$ on my car. I wanted to replace them with long, im guessing 3" extensions that go back under the car a bit so that they are not too visible from the side.

Any suggestions?

Size, links, pics would be helpful

Thanks
RC

I am actually going back to stock tails...

I have had the 2.5 american thunder cat back since 99 and its in good shape but since I did not get the SS tails with it the aluminized(SP?) crap just looks like well...poo.

I would love to just dump it as the TFS1 cam is jeckle/hyde with a hint of cam with tails on and quite a bit of lope with dumps. I just can not stand the fumes and dont want it that loud.

I could spend several hundred dollars on a new catback or 2.5 tails and really why? I probably will not see a gain and the currant catback is still in good shape. The stock tails are clean, understated, should fit well, and look good.

Plus it will help keep it a tad under the radar if its not really loud, with a lope, and running stock tails.

Oh, so your talking about just tips...not the entire tail part. Brain fart on my end.

Cutting off/down the tip portion and finding something that looks 1/2 way decent may be hard to do. The only thing I can think of is taking a trip to the local parts stores and seeing what they have that would be a slip/clamp type fit and cut the tips with a tailpipe cutting tool (has wheels in a chain like setup that you clamp to a handle). I know I have seen something like 3in chrome tail sections that are 2.5-3ft in length.

Those are 3" huh? I like the size...the workmanship is nice. I think I want the stock "looking" ends though instead of rolled, which is what I have now.

Thanks

Here is a pic of mine. I went back to a stock style 2.5in from dynomax. They are polished stainless but it's hard to tell from the cell phone pic in the rain. Take a look at this tip from flowmaster it should get you back to a stock look but just a little bigger. Flowmaster 15362 - Flowmaster Exhaust Tips – SummitRacing.com.

I had the full MAC 3" exhaust on my 94 and loved it. MAC ceramic 1 3/4" long tube headers with 3" collector, 3" Prochamber, 3" Cat back with 3" chrome tips. Sounded and looked great. Click on the video (last link). I like the the new Mustang which has the cut outs for the tailpipes.

The summit ones look nice...They should fit pretty nicely with a "simple" weld?

Thanks

RC, an option for you might be to get some 99+ stock tails....i had them before my accident and they looked good. Check ebay and maybe Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market to find some cheap locally.

Outside of that, for just getting new tips i'd measure out how much "straight section" you have. Then just go get the longest section of slash cut/rolled tip/etc whatever type you want. I know they usually come in like 12", 18", 24" etc etc etc.

Are the pipes running under the axle like the IRS kits? Do you still have the solid rear axle setup? Any more pics?

You say the stock pipes, are they a short piece, the whole section that goes from the mufflers back? What's good about that year that you suggested it?

Thanks

I know you are just looking for tips, but stock tailpipes, or Dynomax, Flowmaster, or mac tailpipes are gonna be the only ones that will give you the look you are going for... IMHO, the Flowmaster & dynomax look the best since they look stock, just a tad larger, & they are fully polished all the way to behind the tire... I ran a set of polished Flowmaster fox body LX tails on my old 95 GT & they looked perfect IMO...

the 99+ have 3" stock. They arent "smooth" like flowmaster tails but the section thats 3" goes back far enough that it still looks good. It goes back to the tire....which is good enough in my book. Especially for the price.

I actually picked em' up used from a buddy, but Summit sells em' for Fox's & SN95's... The SN95 ones will actually fit a little better, & look the same. They are pricey new, but will look the best IMO...

Flowmaster 15814 - Flowmaster Tailpipes – SummitRacing.com

Keep in mind though, you can also use any stock 94-04 GT/Cobra tails & they will look about the same, & they will also polish up nicely since they are stainless...

These are stock 98 GT tailpipes on my old 97 Cobra. I swapped them out because the stock Cobra tails were a bit rough & these came right off of a junkyard car FOR CHEAP!!!
