Exhaust with silencers?

Exhaust Inquiries?

I just got a black 02 gt about two weeks ago and i love it. I want to up the hp on it and i was thinking of gears and a better exhaust system. l live with my grandma and she helped me with the downpayment on the car. Heres the problem. I want to upgrade the exhaust system, but that will in turn make my car louder and wake my grandmother up when i come home late at night. She already has problems sleeping also. So heres my question, would it be worth it to completely redo my exhaust system and put a silencer on it? All a really want is the horsepower anyway. Do silencers lower hp? If I did replace the exhaust and get 410's would i have to tune my car for it or would i be ok? Last, but not least, what kind of horspower gains would i be looking at after installing a top of the line street legal exhaust system(excluding a new manifold)?

i know, i know. Im just asking to get flamed.
But really, any help would be appreciated!!!

The best thing to do, would be slip some earplugs in grandmas ears at bedtime, and get the steeda cat-back made by Borla. It is the best looking, best sounding, and best quality that I have seen. Has awesome tips at rear. Costs about 600, but bolts right on, doesn't hit frame like others, and has a nice smooth sound. I have had Borla on several cars and not been dissapointed. No drone at all at cruising speed like flowmaster. Cheaper is not better, dont compromise!!!!!!

You should probably get longtubes, x-pipe and catback.
But make sure it all SLP!!
Your grandmother would love it.

Ricers stick them in their ridiculously loud coffee can mufflers, which make their cars lightening quick.......Yeh right! When I see them on the road, I make a special effort to blow their doors off, and show them what a real car can do. They usually look up in disgust! Fun!

I remember reading recently about someone putting something in the exhaust I think baffled it to reduce the drone.. I don't know about the sound..

best solution? invest in sound proof wall for your grandma's room

bassani has silencers but you have to spend a lot of money but you will love the sound

Yeah my bassani has removable baffles in them. It doesn't really make it any less loud, it just more or less takes care of a little drone a 2k rpms.

From what I have heard (no pun intended), 18" Magnaflow mufflers wil get you the performance of a much less restrictive muffler, without a significant noise change from stock. They don't make a catback with the 18" mufflers. So get the mufflers and have a reputable muffler shop weld them in for you. But get some new 3.5" tips ... they look so good in the cutouts.
