experience or thoughts of powder coating at home

I just picked up a powder coating gun to powder coat a few things. Also to see if I can make a little money on the side, after I get a little experience, by doing **** for other people.

I have a few guys coming to check out my 87 notch thats sitting in the garage and I plan on using the money to set up a little powder coating shop in there. My brother has a blasting cabinet that hes gonna let me have. The neighbor has a 33 gallon craftsman air compressor that he wants to sell, and I'm gonna stop the appliance store tomorrow and see if I can get an oven few a 100 bucks or so.
I got a set of "Powered by Ford" valve covers that I wanna do in all black and the lettering in red. An edlebrock intake that I wanna do in ford dark blue. Also saw an engine bay on corral that had a dark blue theme with the wires and acc. brackets that looked pretty sweet.

So what are your thoughts on powder coating? Am I doing something worth while or is it gonna be a waste of time and money?

My expert advice says: Powder coat your walls. That way you won't have to paint them anymore.

I know someone that started doing that at his house about a year ago, and its grown into a pretty good little business.

we bought the setup last year. paid for itself after using it on control arms and suspension parts for a lowrider we were building. instead of a oven, we bought a propane tank ( grill style ) and a double head heating unit from lowes for 65.00. cured the powder just fine. we bought all our powder from eastwood. check them out, theyve got a lot of different colors and supplies.

hmmmm call me stupid but im not really picturing your setup? Does it have temp control on it? from what Ive been reading most of the powders need to be baked at 400 degrees for roughly 20 minutes. O btw I did order the eastwood setup, dont know if mentioned that in my first post. I actually ordered the 99 dollar gun kit thingy with a half a pound of high gloss black then second thought it and i drove down to eastwood and exchanged it for the 180 dollar kit cuz it seemed like a better deal to me. I'm glad to here that it paid for itself.

I read somewhere that they are junk. Not to sure about it though. Dont mark my words though.

-You mask off the entire object except the part you want a different color in this case you would cover up the whole entire valve cover and leave the "powered by Ford" exposed.
-I would then coat the letters in Red. Very carefully take the masking off and put it in the oven.
-Let it in there until it just starts to melt but isnt totally cured.
-Take it out, let it cool down.
-After it cools, mask off the lettering carefully and coat the rest of the valve cover black.
-Unmask the lettering and then just cure it like you would any other part.
