Just wonderin if anyone has attempted or heard anything about droppin an exploder 5.0 into a 95 stang. I just picked up a 6cyl with a blown engine and i'm converting over to v8. I'm not sure if the GT-40 heads on the expl 5.0 are gonna be a problem for headers. any info anyone has about this please let me know...like harnesses and ecu's and or anything else i might come across that would caause a problem in converting. Also if anyone has a 95-2001 explorer 5.0l or an 94-95 stang 5.0l laying around please let me know. looking for something with if not all, most of the correct bracketry. Thanks

I wouldn't buy an "ExploDer" motor! haha, just kidding... On a serious note, one of the guys on here (GreenMustangGT) that I know of used an Explorer motor in his Mustang and now has twin turbo's hooked up to it with good success. Hopefully him or someone else who has physically done the swap will chime in, but for now I can tell you it will work and you will need some new parts such as a new TB adapter and other parts that they can later elaborate on. Maybe Green will post his exact numbers, but I believe his Explorer 5.0 made around 270 RWHP and close to 300 RWTQ after the swap. Good luck!

im in the process of doing the same thing, but i got a 94v6 with a huge rod knock that we blew up this weekend, i will post the vid on streetfire.net if i ever get unlazy enogh.
plus you live near me , kinda, i kow kids from bergenfield. if you need any help, let me know, ive been throguh this before
i would use the explorer engine only, change all electrical to 94-95gt stuff and im not sure if they used p heads or not, which would require different headers.

thanks guys...now at least i know that i could have a bigger selection of motors to choose from. i'm really not likin the idea of droppin a 90k used GT motor in that someone like us would have been beatin the hell out of. I really appreciate the help. If i come across problems in the conversion u'll be seenin me post more messages. I'm used to the 87-93's so the conversion on the sn95 is a bit different.

If it has a GT40P marked on the heads or 4 bars then they are P heads and you will need special shorty's or log tubes. You will want to change the cam or a mustang cam or aftermarket. The Explorer intake elbow has to go. The 65mm TB can be used if you want to go with a pre-94 TB setup. If not, then you will need a 94-95 elbow and TB. If you need to pass emissions, you will need an EGR setup. The accessory brackets are all wrong for a mustang. It may be run off coil packs, so you would need a distributer. Other than that, the block is the same as any other 5.0L and the upper/lower intake is very similar to a cobra/GT40.
