I've got the oppertunity to get an Explorer Upper and Lower intake for 200. I'm not sure what it comes with, but i'm assuming nothing. What will i need to make this work with my car? And is it worth the money, or should i just save for a cobra (direct swap, and better looking)

Thanks,
Matt

well i know that, they flow just as good as the cobra intakes do. I just needa know what is needed in the swap, and if all my stuff is interchangeable (injectors, fuel rails ect)

I guess i sorta posed as someone who knew something... but honestly I really don't. I THINK you need an elbow.... but other than that I don't know. It will sit higher than the original, too....

Just add the elbow and your ready to rock. The Explorer and Cobra flow essentially the same.

Here is a step by step process for the installation with pictures, got it from allfordmustangs.com. It should tell you everything you need and is probably very helpful, i will be putting mine on the new motor im building.

thanks a lot for the info. I'm thinking about instead of polishing, just painting it up nicely.

stock cam with 1.7 rr's will kick ass. thats my combo with ported windsor gt 40s, and explorer. 80mm mass air, 70 tb, and 24 pounders will follow shortly. and o ya, 4.10 gearing and my giggle gas

i'd like to get a new cam, and rockers.

Maybe Trickflow Stage 1, Steeda 19, or the E-Cam of Fury

I ran one for abit....Had a nice hit in the mid/top end with it...Its well worth it...
It cleared the stock hood fine even with the blanket intact...The vac lines will need some finessing as the lines under the intake are different..I ported out my Mac elbow i was running as the Ex opening is purdy large...you'll wanna tune the in for a good flow...I ported my elbow so it flowed nicely all the way thru....In the pic I had to run my fuel lines over the elbow...I has tall VCs on..with the stock covers you'll be fine...other than the above its fits no sweat...These may help...

I have this elbow still if your interested...Its EGR deleted tho...had to grind the flange to clear the VCs...

Here's the vac ports under the EX...This was a "roughing" of the lines but you get the idea...one hole has to be blocked...this is a 96 Ex.

i dont guess i have to, but on a budget, with a mild combo, i figured a mild cam would be good, i dont see how a custom cam with mild combo is going to help much vs a mild cam.

BTW i got pics, and it looks good:

the stock cam is mild. and it kicks ass with 1.7's.

heres a fact. the stock cam in 93-95 cobras was milder than stock gt cams. and these cars had 1.7's. we are basically building cobra motors so leaving the stock cam wont hurt. the next best thing is custom which i will do eventually or after i get better heads .
