I was messing with the explorer motor today pulling it the rest of the way apart and such. I got to looking at the upper intake and there are a crap load of vacuum hoses. Which ones can I plug off and which ones will I need to keep? I'm going to a fox style throttle body setup so that might change things a little.

Also, if you've done this before, what did you end up plugging the holes with?

I did a search and there was no way I was gonna look at every single thread that has to do with Explorer intakes!!

Keep what you need and plug the rest. Theres vacuum line rubber caps... Or you can stick a short hose with a bolt...but thats kinda tacky

I was actually wanting to eliminate the tubes coming out of the intake completely. There must be something I can drive into the intake to plug the holes. I know most other intakes use threaded holes that you can just plug with threaded plugs.

Use either a bolt...Or theres metal plugs that you drive in with a Allen wrench like Trickflow includes with their kit....Not sure where to get it though.

Here's an Ex... These have a butt load of ports

Here's how I used the holes...I only ran this a month and swapped to a 93 Cobra. These kinda suck as you cant use that vac tree like the Cobra and run 3 line from it to clean things up... no threaded hole to use...least on mine... a 96 I think.

Cobra vac tree...

Could you perhaps thread one of the holes on the back side to accept a tree and weld up the unused holes?

I was thinking about doing just that. I was thinking of drilling and tapping the largest hole in the rear to where it would accept the stock vacuum tree. Then I'd plug the rest of holes some how. I'm sure if I ponder long enough or get my "MacGyver" dad to figure something out to plug the holes.

So, what do we have here, Emission hose, FPR, Vacuum tree, EVAP? Where does the PCV valve get it's vacuum source? Can't remember.

What he said... for a cleaner install I would go that route.. I kinda homied my hoses to get it running...Tucked them in as much as possible.

I will say when I installed that intake it woke the car right up....

well, I'm putting that intake on along with the GT40s and Steeda 19 cam. I hope that wakes it up enough to beat my friend's 99 Z28! His wife (my ex..lol) is talking alot of smack lately and I need to put that baby to bed!

You should be able to hang in there afterwards...get the holeshot as those Z's have crazy midrange...

PVC just loops around...

Ok, so where does the EVAP/Charcoal canister system get it's source? Doesn't it come straight from the intake?

Really appreciate those pics BTW, gonna be a huge help when I go to install the new motor!

I noticed your intake doesn't have the little wire retainer/clip thing that was cast into most of them. It's right on the top D/S of the upper intake, but it's missing on yours.

I seen that about the charcoal, I just figured it'd be sticking out the rear side. I know the foxes came in from the front, but I guess it could just do a quick U turn and come out the rear as well.

You did a great job grinding that back in! I did the exact same thing today on mine and it looks pretty good. I'm actually going to polish my intake, I've never seen one polished before so it should be pretty nice!

When I did mine, I waited until I pulled my stocker off and took the fittings off of the stock one, transfered them onto the explorer and then cut and capped the excess fittings, since most of them are on the bottom if you cut them near the intake and put the vacuum caps on you dont even notice they are there once on the car unless you look for them...

you could pull the tubes you don't need out get a pipe thread tap. tap in the threads, find the appropriate pipe plug and a little teflon tape and , call it good
