Was hoping you guys could help me out with some question on the aluminum 4.6. I'm building a dune buggy and would like to use this motor for the decreased weight and price (seen a bunch for about 2 grand). I've ran a search on this board and found that they are quite a bit lighter (assuming the 05 is using the same block), a bit over 450lbs seems to be the average. Would this be lighter than a 5 liter with aluminum heads (seems like I've seen similar figures for this motor)? I know there are aluminum 5 liter blocks but they are about as much as a complete aluminum 4.6.
How strong are the bottom ends of these motors? I'll be going forced induction before to long (probably run it N/A for the first season to shake out any bugs). My goal would be 4-450hp to the ground and if at all possible on pump gas.
Whats your thoughts? What would you do? I would be using the stock computers and have a map burnt for the application.
