If you do a gt40 combo I would leave it untouched other than valve springs. By the time you sink the money in you are into a better hci. Untouched the explorers intake will flow as well as the eddy performer, tfs street heat, and cobra intakes. With a custom cam I think you could likely squeeze an extra 10-15 hp from an otherwise stock gt40 set up. Great combo with spectacular street manners. Lots of people over think this set up and shoot themselves in the foot. With an aod I would seriously think about using stock gt40/p heads and get a custom cam along with a high stall converter. Will really wake your machine up and make it the perfect street car.

I guess i really underestimated the potential of the explorer intake. Now im looking into TW 170's or AFR 165's with a custom cam.

i dont understand the custom cam parade.... comp, crane, trickflow and a half dozen others have catalogues
full of cam options.

my guess is people dont understand or research enough to understand the cause and effect of lobe patterns.

what is everyone with a "gt/40" intake and various heads running? my guess is there are dozen variables and everyone with a decent street rod is within the same cam parameters....

no intended or implied offense tamadrummer... just think you could find an easy solution if folks laid out what they have .......

e303 with 1.72 rockers.
imo i should have purchased a dual pattern cam.

As far as tuning is concerned, id like to get this thing tuned to get the most power out of it, driveability and what not. I thought about the AFM PMS, but i mostly see it used on boosted applications, so i think it would be overkill for a simple H/C/I car. I keep hearing alot about a quaterhorse and the TwEECer. Can someone aware me on those two tuning devices?

To be honest. a tune is unneccesary. unless your building a radical setup a adjustable fuel pressure regulator will suffice. your goal seems close to stock, so a maf matched to your injectors is all you will really need.

If you delete the EGR you need to have the function turned off on the computer. For what a tune costs these days, there is no reason not to do it.

or get an egr delete module attatches to the plug....... ots tune from american muscle can get tuned for anything moderate its an sct chip from bama. maf injectors ots cams ( nothing radical) and emissions (egr, o2s ect.)... free tunes for life.

IMO leave the egr no reason to delete it, better mpg and does not affect power in any way.

Don't get into the gas mileage argument, it's just not worth it. I would leave the EGR. The only reason to delete it is when it doesn't fit, like in my case, or because they clog up all the time. Probably cheaper and far easier to buy a new EGR than to delete it.

Apparently, the Explorer intake i have is the Non-EGR intake, so i guess i really have no choice but to get rid of it. The car isn't a daily anyway, its just a nice weekend or fair weather cruiser.

They are both EGR intakes. The early ones route through the bottom of the intake like a foxbody. The late ones pull exhaust from a tube off one of the exhaust primaries like an SN.

Decide what heads before having tmoss port it. The lower will look like it could flow golf balls when they are done. Port the upper to 70 mm and the throat bolt intrusions according to his directions.
As far as a cam, there are companies that have plenty to choose from, just tell them what you have and want. You are not doing anything so unusual that a selected cam will not be fine.
