My car has been in the shop 5 times in the last month for the same problem, misfire, they have changed everything possible on the outside of the motor and exactly a week later it will start doing the same thing. After the 4th time its getting really old and now i just dropped if off for the 5th time at the dealer, it is under the 5 year 75000 mile extended warranty, now my question is, is there anything i can do about this, such as some kind of lemon law type deal other than 3 year 36000 or am i just stuck with a lemon? They have replaced all 8 injectors, plugs, complete injector wire harness assem, i have changed the coil pack and it still does this misfire. The next move is tearing the motor apart to check for internal problems. The car only has 49000 miles on it. So if you have any info on extended warranty's please share,
thanks
chris

there is no need to tear a motor apart for that. compression test will tell you all you need to know.

If a motor has compression, spark, fuel, correct timing it will run.

have you located the misfire yet? I mean is it a single cylinder missfiring all the time or is it just a random stumble.

I mean if you are replacing all eight injectors, all eight coilpacks that is what I would call shotgun trouble shooting and as long as you not paying for it I guess it is fine but get expensive on MPI cars with individual coils per cyl.

sounds to me like you have lazy mechanics to me. I would try a different shop. they should not even let you take the car back if the missfire is still there. I mean did it clear up for a bit and then return?

the misfire is in the 8th cylinder, does not move, car will run fine for a week after i pick it up and then go down hill within an hour all the sudden, im not paying for a thing as the car is covered under extended warranty, i ran a compression test on the cylinder myself and it holds compression, unless it is a really slow leak i don't know what it could be. my mechanics are working well trying to eliminate the problem. they even changed out the pcm. their next step is to change out the fuel rail. we will see from there, just wanted to know if there is something similar to the lemon law in an extended warranty thats all.

you would have to research you exact states law but I think it applies to the factory waranty period. then the specifics break down by state but I would just search google.

my .02 on the problem if there is compression then the internals are fine. a slow leak should not effect a cylider to miss IMO.

since it is always cylinder 8 you just need to figure out if it is spark or fuel related. the fact they are trying both gives me pause. I have a feeling the problem is one or the other.

Like I said though sometime you just need to switch shops. my dad had an issue like this with an IROC. Car was running bad shifting eratic. dealership kept replacing stuff. sensors, pcm, etc took it to a different shop and it tured out to be a $30 knock sensor about the only thing the dealership did not replace.

So what has actually fixed it before? everthing they have tried? or is it mainly spark or fuel that fixes it.

everytime it has been in the shop it has ran fine for exactly a week and then back to missing, you think ford is dicking me around or what, they are paying for it not me, if i take it somewhere else i will have to pay for it, not to mention i am getting all these new parts for free, such as injectors, pcm, plugs, new wire harness for injectors, new fuel rails, etc.. so they can keep screwing up and giving me parts but in all honestly i would like to have my car back. If there is no such law in an extended warranty i will just keep taking it back, thanks guys

the fact it runs fine when it leaves though means they may not be the problem I guess. I am just saying they may be a shade on the incompetant side if it has been back that many times for the same issue.

I have a 04 dodge diesel truck and the sevice department at my local dealership sucks. I have had a powersteering leak form month number 2 they can't seem to fix. I have told them since day one I though that the leak was at the pump itself. now after 1.5 years they are putting a new pump on this weekend.

now a different dealership may have fixed this the first time who knows. my dealership I go to put three hoses on before they are tying the pump. next time I have any issue I may try a different service department. I told them the last two times the hose was not going to fix it. but I am like you it is under waranty so I keep going back.
