Extra fan - cooling question

Anyone tried to mount a tiny electrical fan as supplemental cooling?

I have a large mechanical fan with fan shroud (plastic). I also have AC. I would really like to have a extra fan to set in when I am stuck i traffic jams and must have AC on.

I knbow there is little room - But anyone done a setup like this?

You can get you a small "pusher" fan...the only problem is the clearance between the hood latch support and the condenser, but if you got one small enough (perhaps 12") you can offset it to one side and it will still allow for additional cooling. If you only want it when you are sitting in traffic you can rig it up to a toggle switch or go one step further and hook it into your a/c system to kick in when your a/c is running. I have a 16" electric fan, no mechanical fan, 2 row aluminum rad, thermostat activated and a/c activated switches on my 67...works like a charm.

yes you an rig a secondary electric fan, in fact that was what we did years ago when electric fans were not ready for prime time. my advice however would be to dump the mechanical fna, and dump the secondary fan idea, and get yourself a two speed taurus electric fan. that way you can wire the fan so that when you are running without the a/c, you run the fan on low speed, and when you turn the a/c on the fan kicks up to its high speed setting to pull more air through the system.

I have tried a 16 " el fan before but it did not work satisfactory.

the fan in the link would be what i am talking about. as for the 16" electric fan you tried in the past, what brand was it? remember that most after market electric fans pull only 2500cfm, where as the factory fan pulls more like 4000cfm.

The 16" fan I tried was a standard Summit electric fan.Quit right you are, it did not pull enough air.
