I put in a rebuilt tranny last wk...the car has been driving fine since then...but today I took it out on the highway and at about 45-50 mph the car starts vibrating extremely bad...checked the driveshaft and all the weights were still on and driveshaft was put back on correctly....also the vibration was so bad that it snapped one of the bellhousing to motor bolts...My harmonic balancer looks fine...and I cant figure out what else the problem could be...anyone?

What if you leave the trans in neutral and rev the engine, any vibration? if so then run this test again with the clutch depressed... What about if you are going the 50 mph to get the vibration and you push in the clutch and let the rpm's fall... does this happen in all gears???

This can help to rule in or out things...

What would it mean if you're cruising in 5th till you get to the speed that vibration occurs and then depress the clutch and it makes the vibration worse?

Sorry to jack the thread.

took the driveshaft and got the u-joints replaced, and the shaft balanced...problem solved

:nice: Good to hear. I had a bad vibration between 60-70, and I thought it was the u-joints (as this seems to be a common problem), but it ended up being my passenger side dump was rubbing the driveshaft. :bang: The solution? New exhaust, lol.

I paid $118 all together for new u-joints installed, new transmission yoke, and balancing from a local driveshaft shop in my area. Not sure how much it would be where you are but from what I hear if you can find a shop that specializes in driveshaft balancing/fabricating it will be a lot cheaper then if you were to go to belle tire or something along those lines.
