I just put together a car for a friend. AFR 165s, F303 cam, 1.6 rockers, Performer RPM intake, 70mm TB, 24#ers, Base model Powerdyne, off road H pipe, 2 chamber flows, etc. I haven't even driven the car down the road yet, because it's been raining, but I can tell you that it idles like a stock 5.0. Is this what the F cam is supposed to sound like. I used to have an E cam in my 93 that sounded really good at idle, but this F cam has left me disappointed..........Man, I don't care how much more power it might mike, if it sounds like stock at idle, I wouldn't want it in my car. Anyone else had these thoughts with this cam?

Yup, I'm positive. It has F303 stamped on it. The cam that I took out of it was also 512 lift, It was just about identical to the F cam except it had a bit more duration on the exhaust side. (it sounded stock also, that's why we ordered the F cam in the first place)

I just listened to all of those and there is NO WAY that it sounds like any of those. I'm telling you it idles like a stocker. What could cause this? Like I said, I haven't even driven it down the road yet. The car has no FMU on it right now, and only 24# injectors, so the owner has to decide if he wants to buy an FMU or bigger injectors before I will even lay into it.

Ok then are you positve you are comparing it to a true stock cam? Sounds like a dumb question...I know....but I gotta ask.

Post a sound clip of the car idleing. A friend has an f-cam in his (NA) notch back with 3" exhaust and dumps, and the car sounds awesome at idle. it sounds like it should have 400 hp.

I have no way to post a sound clip of this, but I can tell you that I used to own a 93 with Edelbrock performer heads, 1.7 RR, E303 cam, GT40 intake, headers, exhaust etc. and it sounded great at idle. I can also tell you that I have a 90 notch sitting in my driveway that is bone stock except for the mufflers. The car with the F303 and my stock notch idle the same,....lol....I'm not crazy! I thought that maybe somehow I had the rockers adjusted way off, but I pulled the upper and rechecked them last night. I don't get it either.

Thsi is just wierd IMO. I'm at a loss for probable cuases.

yeah, thats pretty much why I posted it. I thought it might have been something that I did wrong, but both cams sound stock. The old combo consisted of (like I said earlier) a very similar cam and Victor Jr. heads. Whoever through the old combination together didn't do their homework, and the 2.02s in the Victors smacked all 8 pistons and bent the valves. I even thought maybe the pushrods were bent because of this, but I double checked them when I had it apart last night also............yeah, I'm scratchin my head here.

ok, I just came in from outside. I unplugged the IAC after the car was warm and it died. I gave the idle screw a couple turns, started it without IAC and now it sounds like it should (lumpy). I also found out that with the IAC plugged in, I can back the idle screw all the way off, and it still idles at like 600rpm....smoothly....like stock cam, whats up with that?

I`ve never heard a F cam idle but with 226/[email protected]",I can`t see it being anywhere close to a stock idle.

Did you buy the cam new or used?,if new, maybe it was mislabeled at the factory,if used maybe somebody pulled a scam and stamped F303 on a stock cam:shrug:.

off topic but sounds like your injectors are def too small for a blown h/c/i combo car !!! Sorry, but anyway, my buddy has an E cam, and it sounds badass - so i got it lol

Yes, the injectors are too small. That is why I previously stated that I am waiting to drive the car until it has an FMU are bigger injectors. The 24# ones that are in it are barely enough to keep up with this setup without the blower, but I appreciate you helping me cover all areas. I wouldn't believe it if I didn't see it first hand, but somehow the IAC is smoothing out the choppy idle of the cam. Like I said, if I unplug it and bump up the idle a bit, the cam sounds how it is supposed to. Another wierd thing........when I bumped up the idle with the adjustment screw it never surged. I would have the think that the TPS voltage is off now. side note........this kind of stuff is exactly why my notch will wear a carb in the spring.
