Hi guys.

I just got a 97 Cobra with the factory keyless entry.

I assume this has an alarm that sets when I lock the doors.

How does this work? If I press lock once, it locks, hit it immediately after and it honks the horn. Whats the difference?? Is one press just lock, 2 presses lock & arm?

If one or two presses arm the alarm, is there a visual alarm armed light, like an LED??

Also, is there some sort of chip in the key itself that prevents it from being started without the key? Does this work?

The hown blip is normal, doesn't mean you have the alarm. To test, arm the system with the window down and reach in and open the door from inside. If the horn starts honking and the lights flashing then you do. The only visual indicator is a flashing "security" on the dash, but that flashes wether you have the alarm or not.All 96+ Mustangs had the PATS system that prevents anybody from starting the car without the key. It uses a passive transponder in the head of the key that the car must see when running.

Thanks for the reply.

It appears I do not have an alarm. Since the car is equipt with a transmitter and receiver for the door locks, trunk etc. I imagine there is an OEM alarm module that I can get ahold of that piggybacks onto this system to allow me to have an alarm function. Is there??

I want an alarm but don't want an aftermarket unit I'd like something that integrates into the factory system.
