does anyone know the width of a factory steel rim 1966? Did the factory discs evercome with the steel wheels or only the styled steel wheels. trying to figure if the factory setup or aftermarket replica (SSBC, or masterpower) will work with the steel wheels( my wifes car and she wants the hubcaps!!!why!!!). SSBC shows 14X7 as minimum and I doubt the factory wheels are 7". Trying to find someone who has a good answer if it will work or not. Thanks.

The original styled wheels for 66' were only 5" wide.

I have normal steel wheels on my GT convertible with factory discs-either 5" or 5.5". A standard 66' drum car steel wheel will not fit it, but a 67' and newer disc wheel does (has ventilation built into the rim.) I believe that all 67' and newer rims are ventilated.

Now as far as aftermarket type discs, I have no answers.

Go to the parts yard and get 5 lug 14" rims from a Granada/Monarch/Versailles or any 1970-73 Mustang. They all should be disc brake compatible.

Just be warned that the center holes on the Granada wheels will be bigger than the Mustang hub, so they won't self-align as well.
