From what I understand, it's not neccessary to upgrade your headers until you upgrade to a better flowing head.

I didn't even notice a sound difference. The new ones look pretty but that's about it.If I had known it wouldn't really make a difference then I would have spent the $$$ on something else.I am happy with the look though.

Stock header primaries are 1 1/2 inches. They are good to about 280 rwhp before they become a restriction vs. other short tube aftermarkets. Not worth the money to buy them. For those that have headers (shorts) on a pretty stock car, and say it helped... they need to get their SOTP gauge recalibrated.

My stock HO headers measured 1.43" OD - they're smaller than 1.5". My mild combo makes about 270HP at the crank. The dyno said we LOST 3HP when I added Ford Racing shorties - with no gain anywhere in the curve. I agree with I8 - unless you're up around 280-290HP, the stock headers - even though they look bad - aren't a restriction to peak HP.

However, on a near stock motor, a set of 1.5" primary long tubes has the potential to REALLY help bottom end and mid range.

Because if he plans to run those heads for a while, he'd be futher ahead putting his money in suspension, or even an intake if he doesn't have one. But it certainly wouldn't be a bad idea if he plans on running different heads in the near future.

I don't know, they say 100 lbs. of weight off of a car is worth 1 tenth in the 1/4; headers will lighten your wallet quite a bit.........

Music to my ears! I hope mine help my car as much as you emphasize! How many hp would these headers be good for? They are a Ford (SVO maybe, bought them used, guy said he bought them 10 years ago out of an SVO catalogue or something of the like) 1.5" longtubes, single flange - Pretty nice for $50!

Thenemisis: You really need to think before posting, i've thought that after reading your posts lately!

i think someone is onto something - i have heard (but never seen) that those really heavy exhaust manifolds bring the car down.

i bet most of us got lucky and got the factory headers.
