I reused my old 91 hardtop non sunroof headliner. Took out the 87 t top one and traced over the hard top one. Cut the cardboard to the t top shape and left 3 1/2 inches of material to fold over the channel. Had to move the dome light foward to match the new location, but it works for cheap.

My 87 had that vinyl type material too.....it makes sense for me to put the same back in. I know I've left the tops out when it started raining before, I'd hate to have water soak into the cloth headliner and destroy the cardboard.
I actually need to do my headliner here in a week or so, so while we're on the subject, how much material needs to be left in the openings to wrap up and over the lip of the roof?

Car's with removable roof panels (sunroofs, t-tops) come with a vinyl material for the headliner.
Car's with plain roofs, come with cloth.
Same deal goes for the visors. Vinyl headliner, vinyl visors. Cloth headlines, cloth visors.
When i converted my '88 from red to black interior, i had to dye the headliner since the parts car had a black cloth solid headliner and i have a sunroof. I tried for the longest time to make a trade for headliners on SN or corral butg no bites. Nobody had a black sunroof headliner for some reason.
So i died the red material and then used the black OEM cloth headliner to cut a sunshade out of that fit into the sunroof and would block the sun in the summer. Worked great because I could then take it out in the spring and fall. Better than tinting the roof in my opinion

t tops and sunroofed mustangs have the vinly head liner for a reason, the reason being is the vynyl is less porous than the cloth and wont catch air like a cloth headliner will with the roof open or t tops removed, to replace with cloth headliner is not advisable as it will have to be replaced sooner than the vinyl liner. your best bet would be a fabric shop or an aphoulstry guy who could give you info on where to find such a material. buy a couple yards and problem solved to get the exact texture of the oem top will be extremly difficult.

I agree and disagree here... Plain roofs got cloth headliners yes, and TTop and sunroof cars did get vinyl headliners. Where I disagree is the fact that vinyl headliner = vinyl sun visors. My teal daily driver is a sun roof car, with a vinyil headliner, and cloth factory visors...
Agreed. My 89 w/ Sunroof had a vinyl headliner and cloth visors....move the visors to the T-Top car...much nicer.
