weld on or clamp on muffler tips (MRT or SLP)?

Well.................my wife actually asked me if I wanted anything for my car for xmas!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW, so being the penny pincher I know she is, a programmer and intake is outa the question, wheels and tires > hell no, lowering>she knows there's a lot of incidentals like aligning and such, so I figured on exhaust. I would love some Magnapacks, but even then, too much money. So I figured on an SSS system - sounds decent and looks great! Well......... "your exhaust sounds good and isn't rusting so.....". This is FAWKING KILLING ME!!!!!! So, I'm onto exhaust tips. I know welding is really the way to go, but I've dun a couple of seaches and people have liked the MRT and the SLP? These are clamp on style ones right? If I were going the weld route, would I cut the welds off on the old tips, and get a 2.5" ID to weld back on (will there be anything to weld to???), OR get a 3" ID and weld over the OEM tip?? Thx a bunch guys, I'll need to provide exhaust tip links asap to my wife so she can pick something out!

I'm no welder, but what is the cost of what you are thinking of doing? 60-80 for quality tips plus the cost of install (15-20)? See if the wife will go 1/2 with you on the 299 SSS system, or 220 pypes violators. Ebay might even have some attractive prices on used AB's. Both systems are priced well and will give you a nice 4" dual wall tip and sweet sound to boot. Good luck and let us know.

When I bought my car it had flowmaster 40 series mufflers with magnaflow tips. I didn't like the tips because they were only about 2.75 to 3". I had an exhaust shop put new tips. They were damn expensive. I think they were $75 to $80 each plus $20 to weld them in.

I just put the sss terminators on my car. They sound amazing! I had my doubt just bc they were so cheap but they are better sounding that most axlebacks in my opinion. Plus the 4" adjustable tips look really nice!

this is kinda the route I'm trying - 1/2 and 1/2 doesn't work because we're joint accounts. My Magnaflow tip I have for my Jeep GC was $89. Why spend $200+ on tips w/install, when the SSS or Pypes are so cheap. The big problem is that the ship to Canada is mucho denero (mufflers are neither small or light), and the $299 turns into $399 (don't forget exchange rate ). Unfortunately, this is why the tips are more realistic !!! Anyone have the MRT or SLP tips on ur OEM mufflers? Thank god our factory system sounds pretty dam good! She's also asking me about HID's as well.............we're on the right track!!!!

Well, it if were me, I would save for an AB and in the meantime polish the heck out of the OEM mufflers. There may be a "how to" link on here or on SVTperformance.com that will teach you to get them to look like SS. Its a nice DIY mod ($20 I think. Series of different grit sandpaper in sequence) that will have a unique look to it. If you get the mufflers all SS lookin' if may detract the eye away from the gap of the factory 3" tips and the exhaust cutouts. A lot of guys with the 03-04 Cobras did this because the midpipe was very noticable from the rear much like our exposed mufflers. HID's (quality sets) are kinda expensive. Good luck and keep us posted on what you do.

Register with Photobucket, take the vid, upload to your new Photobucket account, then share the link. easy peasy. It's not quite as easy as saving up for it - as I said before, my wife and I share our money and I have none extra for my personal needs/wants, so if she doesn't think I need an axleback, there's no way in hell i'm gunna be allowed to get one (visa-versa if she wanted a $300 sewing machine ). I would like a different exhaust note, but larger double wall tips would suffice...........hehe. the 3" tip just don't cut for me.....shiney or not.
