Fan Clutch on '87 GT?

What should I check for on my fan clutch on my '87 GT to see if it is bad or not? It says on the water pump box that I may want to replace it, but I don't really know what to look for on it to see if it is bad or not.

grease seeping out of the axle on the fan.....or on the front of the clutch on the spring. and if you can stop the fan from spinning with only a little pressure when the car is running (wearing a glove is recommended for that) or if the fan spins freely when the car is off. it shouldnt turn more than 1/2 turn when the car is off.
