Fan Clutch Problems

A thermatic and non-thermatic.
Make sure you have a thermatic one, as the non will be harder to spin.
You can tell the thermatic ones by the quarter size coil of metal in the front of the fan clutch. This should clear up your problem.

Thermatic, but it turns out that the MAF sensor was getting flooded with turbulent air

I'll have to file this away myself. I never considered it because I don't like exposed underhood filter elements.

UPDATE:

As some of you know I've had a PLETHORA of overheating problems. So my 93 Coupe has sat literally for months, like almost a year.

So when it was figured out that the backwash of air from the fan was causing my MAF to screw up, I put the stock clutch fan back on and put the factory airbox back on. It still overheated. So I was toying with the idea of selling the car.

Well I cleaned out my garage last weekend and found a brand new $70 clutch fan that I didn't know I had. So I switched them out and drove the car in 50 degree weather all day almost. I went through almost a tank of gas and the car never once got over 150 degrees!

So I am calling this a closed case, at least until I test it out in 90 degree weather again.

Glad to have my car back!
