Fan Died Today

Man... its not stopping.
Fan died today... so I replaced the motor... and nada.
She's still getting rather warm sitting around in traffic.

Now what????

I swear Im gonna have a lifetime warranty on all the parts for the car.

wasnt there a recall with the fan??...i remember i think it was Vib's car caught on fire when his fan stopped???....you should head to a local dealer with the VIN # and let them check if it was affected by the recall....looks like your having all sorts of problems man...i know that sucks but you will get it all straightend out...

Yep... I just have to drive home now.
At least its a cool night and hardly any stop signs.
What do they do for the recall??? there is some weird looking thing with two fuses in between the connector and the fan... but according to what I can find out on the recall they install a relay / breaker for it, which would indicate there is a way to reset the switch with a new fan installed...

You can take the vin to the ford web site and check for recall there also.

I bought a fan motor today... and it didnt do deek.
So its going to go back and im probably going to replace the whole damn setup. Going to try and get home and test out the power there for the fan motor... so we'll see in a bit.

God damn Id hate to have to start carrying all my tools in this car....

Sounds like to me that they already installed a fuse. That was Ford's "Fix" for the issue. The whole fan recall pi**es me off. Ford merely installs a fuse so the wiring won't catch on fire, but the car is still going to leave you stranded if the fan dies. The government should make them replace the fan, wiring, and the box that controls the fan.

I'm pretty sure they're supposed to replace the whole unit if the recall wasn't done and the wiring was the cuase of the fans death.

Right, but that is all after the fact. They should have to replace it all now. Sure that it is expensive for them, but it is their fault to begin with and it can be very expensive for the consumer when their car overheats and/or leaves them stranded.

I am assuming there is absolutely no power getting to the fan.
Is there anything I can check??? Or do I need to just take it to Ford?

Well I had a similiar problem. My ccrm caught fire. You need to check the connector by making sure it is getting power. Pull some of the wire tape off. The wires are color coated (Black, Orange, Red). Red is the high speed fan, Orange is low speed and Black is ground. Get a test light and see if your getting power to the Orange and Red.

Well.. I knew somethin was up when you told me the wire colors... someone cut and "spliced" new wire in... so its possible the fan already caught on fire.

I dont have a voltmeter with me to test power output.

well... I just saw a pic of the "breaker".
Thats what I have... so the recall has been done.
Even with the breaker out it still doesnt run so I guess I am not getting power to the fan.

Now where do I go????? Should the lower power for the fan always be on????

Have you tried turning on the A/C? If that kick the fan on, then it might be your ECT sensor. My fan wouldn't work, but the A/C would turn it on, and it ended being the ACT and it's wiring harness (frayed wires + leak)
