Turned the A/C on... no fan.
Guess Im gonna have to get her home and see what I can see....
Can I jump the fan directly to the battery to see if it will work to test the fan motor????

Just ran a KOEO test to get codes... and guess what....

The fan works at low and high speeds with the stock fan.

Car also has a 172 code stored.

I think the car is punishing you for driving a pontiac.

But seriously, a circuit breaker is like a resetable fuse. Some reset automatically, some are manually reset. Try to find some sort of button to reset the breaker.

If that isn't it, you could hot wire the fan to see if it works.

A friend had a pontiac w/ LT1 do this to him after he bashed F-Bodies day in and day out... then bought one... it plauged him with problems.

Anyway... with a KOEO test it turns on the Fan. The fan came on at both low and high speeds, so I know its nothing in the wiring. Apparantly there is something NOT telling the engine to turn the fans on.

Did you run a KOER? If not, do so with engine fully warm. This will check (somewhat) your ECT. It must read more than 180 to pass. Perhaps yours is reading low. More resistance = lower readings.

Unplug your ECT and measure it's resistance. 68° is about 37K ohms. 194° is about 2.8K ohms. Could also be corroded terminals on connectors. This would cause unplugged tests being fine, but the computer reading incorrectly.

FWIW- My beater is a 93 escort. It's fan wont turn on ever, but will run high/low in KOEO. Put in a new ECT. I unplugged the ECM and tested the readings that the ECM was actually seeing. It was fine all the time. The ECM is not telling the fan to run. Checked all wiring, relays, etc. have no idea why the computer is not telling the fans to turn on. Ended up wiring up a switch to run the fan. I ran it right to the wire exiting the ECM to activate the relay to run the fan. Works fine. I wonder if the ECM is damaged?

WTF is an ECT and where is it?????
I thought Id swap the little box thing up front whatever its called behind the overflow from a 94GT to see if that is it or not...
Remember Im a GM boy... I dont know all the Ford terms yet.

Im starting to think its a logic problem somewhere since it works at times and not at others.

If the ECT is the temp sensor... and it was reading low... would it not read colder on the dash than it is???

no, there are two different sensors, one each for the gauges and the computer. The ECT is engine coolant temperature, it's in the front of the heater tube that comes out of the top the intake, passenger side, next to the distro. It's a 2 wire sensor. The gauge's sensor is on the drivers side, in the intake - 1 wire.

If the ECM (electronic control module) thinks the engine is not too hot, it wouldn't command the CCRM to turn on the relay.

Oops, CCRM = constant control relay module - AKA "little box thing up front whatever its called behind the overflow"

If you can swap that, give it a try.

bwahaha... Thanks rick... that helped a lot.
I'll wire up a fan switch temporarily tomorrow... and I WILL find a solution!!!!
I'll try out a KOER test tomorrow as well.

Ran a KOER test today... only got a 172 for the o2 sensor.

Other than that... no codes.

I got an ECT sensor just to see if that does it.

Since the fans come on in a KOEO and a KOER test... would that indicate the CCRM is functioning correctly??? The fan doesnt come on at all with the A/C on.... but it does FINALLY come on when the temp gauge hits the A.

What do you guys think?

It totally sounds like your ECT is gone however I dont understand why your fan is not coming on with the A/C. Have you tried out the ECT yet? Its really really simple to install and screws up your cooling system royally when it goes bad (by not letting the fan turn on).

Nope... gonna swap it out tomorrow.
Dont have any teflon with me right now. Its all back at the house.

I think I need to drain the radiator again too because the coolant still looks nasty.

I've replaced two of them in two SN95s and haven't ever used anything but a dry sensor. I've never had any problems. They've never leaked, come loose or gotten stuck on. Good luck tho...I hope it works for you!!!

replaced the ECT today... and its the same. Still comes on at the A.

WTF is going on....
