Modified Fan setting to accommodate 1 speed fan
An interesting question came up when I discovered I was in need of a new fan motor/plug. As I was scoping the local parts stores I discovered that all (all of them so far) have only 1 speed fan replacement (assuming they are all set at high speed) for our cars. There were some 2 speed fans available (whole fan/shroud/plug kits), but I didn't want to pay for stuff I did not need
If we replace our stock 2 speed fan with a single speed fan what kind of changes need to be made to the fan scalars to accommodate some cooling at low speeds? Keep in mind that the 1 speed fan does not have the wire connector for power to the low speed fan that does not exist...so any signals from the eec to turn on a low speed (or any fan) will be ignored. In other words a signal to turn on the low speed fan will not initiate the single high speed fan on the new replacement part.
For example the stock j4j1 fan settings are:
Fan high speed ECT1 on 224 degrees F
Fan high speed ECT2 on 228 degrees F
Fan high speed ECT off 220 degrees F
HS Fan High Load MPH 55
HS Fan High Load RPM 1792
HS Fan Load Minimum 0.5
Low speed ECT off 212 degrees F
Low speed ECT on 216 degrees F
I am assuming we would all just have to lower the high speed fan settings to match the low speed ect off/on to initiate the new one speed fan at low speeds, correct? So it would be something like:
Fan high speed ECT1 on 216 degrees F
Fan high speed ECT2 on 220 degrees F
Fan high speed ECT off 212 degrees F
My question now is do we have to do anything to the HS load mph, rpm, or load minimum scalarr settings..
Anyway...the thing that I am also wondering if just how long this replacement fan will last at high speed all the time?
