Fast Idle

Well been having idle problems lately as it seems my car always wants to idle up, I tried disconnecting the TPS while it was idling fast and it did idle down one notch. I believe the computer keeps thinking the engine is cold and goes into fast idle. It will let me kick it down all the way down(like 3 steps) but then it just comes back. Is there any reason it would do this, would it have something to do with me putting an temp guage in? I was told that there is an alternate sensor for the puter but was I lied to? Any help is appreciated.

I would replace the tps, my old 87 did the samething, new tps fixed it.

Just pulled codes and I got a tps voltage code (63) as well as 18(SPOUT circuit open or Spark Angle Word(Saw) circuit failure). How much are tps sensors usually?. Thanks for the help thus far.

I think when I bought mine, around 60 or so from Ford, I don't know about that other code though, I would make sure your spout connector is still working correctly or that it is still connnected.

i know it's somewhat frowned upon, but i just bought a new tps from autozone for $29 i had the tps code before now i dont, now the only 2 codes i have are 94 and 44 which i'm told are smog related
